  1. You say your hospital has plenty of developmentally appropriate positioning tools, but you still just swaddle them? I'm lost!
  2. At my main job we verify rate, volume infused, and access site condition every hour. Now making sure everybody is actually looking at their pump and not just typing stuff in is a task on its own... We also use buretrols which should prevent fluid overload if the rate is input incorrectly, however people tend to overfill those anyways. Another hospital I work at just inputs volumes infused q4, however does assess the IV site qhour.
  3. It's definitely a hard task to keep them from staring at the monitor and not reading their baby's cues! We'll turn a monitor so the parents can't see it for a baby who's been bradying w/ feeds to see if they are able to pick it up by just watching for particular behaviors. If they get the hang of it then sometimes we'll decrease their required stay post brady.
  4. Are there that many places that have 4 baby assignments? I've only known of one hospital in my area, and that's just in their transitional nursery.
  5. nicu level - IV private patient rooms - only 2 iso rooms, unit separated into bays number at bedside - we literally have no limit...crazy who can visit - 4 people selected by parents without them there, anybody else outside of that with parents (restrictions on time for children, siblings only) when can you visit - parents 24/7, can sleep at bedside. other designated visitors also 24/7. children 4-8pm siblings - 4-8pm rsv guidelines - will have to check
  6. I'm a fan of writing things down, myself, but I don't hold it against anybody who chooses not to. But it's when you not only do not write things down, but also don't then thoroughly check the orders that bothers me. What do you mean you didn't know we need a daily head circumference? Or that baby should only PO feed up to 10 mL before dropping the rest NG? Or that we needed a repeat bili at 1430? It's mind boggling the oversight that people get away with...
  7. Left NICU off the list!
  8. I don't think much has changed. I had the same experience in nursing school just a few years ago, and the dad was even studying to be a nurse himself!! Cultural stuff will always show up, which is what this case was! There are also just regular dads out there who think it's weird you're all up in their wife's business, so it's not always just that. I'm a NICU nurse now and have been asked not to come behind the breastfeeding screens more than once!
  9. I know this is a dead thread, but @Inori is dead wrong. 1-page resumes are no longer the norm. If you have experience in anything (i.e. if you were a second-degree student w/ a work history showcasing various skill sets) then of course include them! Just don't go too crazy w/ the page length...
  10. I'm wondering if you need to include all that jazz about your student nurse experiences... My thoughts are that they know where you went to school, and accredited programs will all expose you to the different specialties of nursing. You're fine to include things you've become familiarized with (i.e. EPIC), but there's no reason to say you worked under the supervision of a staff RN doing such and such at these places. You went to school, so this is already understood. Do you have any jobs prior to getting into nursing that would showcase other skills? Customer service? Research?
  11. I'm in school now and everybody has access to a phone in our hospital. Looks like an iphone - very well may be - with an app on it for communication with all providers, nurses, PT/OT/RT, etc. If you have your own smart phone you just get the all yourself
  12. I'm also in for Fall :) Congrats everyone!
  13. I just got an email for the Accepted Students Day, but still haven't gotten a phone call about being accepted... Think it's a mistake or just a chance out of order procedure?? I just had my phone interview last week on Tuesday..
  14. Hey there, seems like your program had different dates. You applied for the pediatric CNS full time program with a fall 2014 start date. This thread is the BSN/MSN cohort starting summer 2014
  15. Hey there, you sure you applied for this cohort? I think most of us have already had our interviews and heard back... School starts in June!
