2014 UCSF MEPN Applicants

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Hey everyone! Given that applications are due a month from today, I figured it was about time to start a thread. How are everyone's personal statements and applications coming?

I've had all my letter writers submit to Interfolio, an online document service. Did anybody do this, and by what method did you deliver? I already tried having them submit online, but because it's a survey w/ supplemental information requested, they can't upload them. Maybe email or hard copy deliveries?

Hi n.a.norcal! I just entered my recommender's email addresses in the online application and they were able to upload it that way. Afterwards, my application showed that it was submitted with a date/time post. They mentioned to me that there was a place where they rate me from 1-6 but they didn't say anything about supplemental information. Any information on this you might be able to share? Was this supplemental information optional? And would you mind sharing where you learned about the Interfolio service? Thanks! :)

I learned about Interfolio through my alma mater; that's actually where I got my first letter of rec a few years ago. It's a great service if you're applying to multiple programs because then your letter writers don't end up having to go through the upload process multiple times. It's a paid service but it's been worth it to me. They send the request to your writer once you enter in their name and email address. When your writer uploads the letter, it's all confidential - you waive your rights to see the letter. Once you're ready to send it to a school, there's a special email address you enter for each writer that is matched to their letter and Interfolio takes care of the upload. In the event there's supplemental info then they can't upload it; but I found out today they'll send the package in an email or send a packet through snail mail.

Just wanted to let people know about this in case they're worried about not sending their transcripts/recommendations in time. I found this on the UCSF website:

"After the deadlines, for applicants with locked applications and paid fees, but with some incomplete supporting documentation (e.g., a missing transcript), we will allow a brief period during which you may forward the remaining necessary materials."

Apparently, this applies to recommendations too. : )

Hi all! A question about transcripts. I had both my undergrad and my prereq institutions send only 1 copy to UCSF because I didn't find requirements specifying a different number within the online application.

However, last night, after I had submitted my app and was nervous that somehow everything was not in (ugh, anxiety!), I found this on the UCSF website:

Transcripts: Official transcripts (two copies) showing your baccalaureate/bachelor's degree and completion of your prerequisite coursework must be submitted to the Nursing Student Affairs Office directly from the institution.

Did everyone else submit two copies? I am feeling quite stupid at this moment...it takes over a week for transcript requests to be processed and resent!

Yeah, I sent two copies. Use expedited service when sending your second copy, but you'll just have to pay more.

For all those freaking about transcripts, this is from the site as well...I posted PDFs of my transcripts

In lieu of official transcripts, unofficial transcript copies may be submitted directly by the applicant solely for the purpose of screening convenience. These unofficial copies MUST be in transcript format and layout. Those who elect to submit unofficial transcript copies should be prepared to quickly follow-up with official transcripts as our screening process continues.

Thank you everyone! I did just speak to the MEPN contact person at UCSF. He said that unofficial copies are okay for screening but that to move ahead with the screening process, two official transcripts must be received. For anyone who submitted only one copy, he said not to bother with expedited transcript requests only because they did have some official proof of degree/prereqs taken.

As for GRE scores - some people (myself included) were worried about theirs not showing up as "received" on their applications before submission even though they had ordered scores up to two weeks in advance. I discussed this with ---- and he said that it takes up to 15 business days for UCSF to receive GRE scores even though the GRE website states that online ordering results in GRE score sending in 5 business days. This is because UCSF uses a third-party company to receive their GRE scores, and they pay this company to have access to the scores and essentially "download" them, which they do not do daily because of the expense. So they receive their GRE scores "in batches" based on the date they choose to download. He said anyone whose application listed that they had not received scores at the time of submission should not be concerned unless UCSF still has not received them by the end of next week.

Yes I sent two, but on the website it says that if your application is locked and paid for, they will allow extra time for supplemental materials to arrive. Just send the 2nd copy ASAP and I'm sure it will be ok :)

Hi everyone! I just wanted to share that I was just randomly logging into the application site to see if there are any updates on the page that previously showed "under review" after I locked my application. It now shows a status update for my GRE scores and recommendation letters, all of which were received by their office. Is anyone else showing something different on their page? And now, the long agonizing wait begins, Lol! :)

Mine shows the same thing. Yep, time to wait and work on other nursing apps!

I have the same status update, too. I wish it included transcript status as well. :)What other schools are you guys applying to? I'll be applying for Columbia and UPenn. Btw, I received an email today from UPenn about an info session in San Francisco on October 11th. I registered for the session. Anyone else going?
