2014 UCSF MEPN Applicants

Published

Hey everyone! Given that applications are due a month from today, I figured it was about time to start a thread. How are everyone's personal statements and applications coming?

Indeed, my undergrad GPA was

Hey Stephen, out of curiosity. Why are you applying to the UCSF program if you are already finishing the BSN? I ask because I am thinking about start with the ABSN and then move to apply for the masters or NP. Could you please explain? you can also email me if you'd like.

It makes me a little concern that they didn't accept you if you already had some experience. Thxs.

Has anyone on the east coast heard either way? I'm in PA and haven't gotten a letter but I'm not sure if it's just taking longer because of the distance or if I'm waiting for a rejection letter at this point.

Got my rejection letter today. It doesn't say anything specific on why I was rejected.

Fransiguenza: I'm interested in HIV specialty and since UCSF had a concurrent HIV specialty with AGNP, it seemed the best way to go. I guess UCSF is just not meant for me.

So sorry to everyone who was rejected. It's not a fun feeling. I haven't heard back from UCSF yet, and I wish I would just hear something! I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and so if UCSF isn't meant to be, then it's their loss!

Spoke with ------- UCSF Admissions Coordinator about my reasons for being rejected without any reason. He said that they don't necessarily ever give a reason for rejecting someone but would be willing to find out from the committee why I was rejected. He also said that it was not articulated enough why I would switch from a BSN program to an advanced practice nurse program. I thought it was weird because I'm pretty sure I explained why I wanted to be a NP, haha. He did say that I could appeal the rejection, but the likelihood of them overturning the rejection is slim to none.

I have heard back - and I am in Massachusetts.

Hi everyone. I got my not so good news in the mail today as well. After shedding all my tears I just wanted to stop and tell everyone how much I really appreciate the support this site has given me. I know I will truly end up where I'm supposed to and I'm not giving up!!! It has been a pleasure and I will cross paths with you again in the future - as your colleague! Thanks guys and best of luck to everyone :(

DentHygTurningNP, best of luck to you in your future endeavors. We'll probably cross paths again ...maybe when we're both nurse practitioners someday!

I'm in Seattle and still haven't heard! This is driving me crazy.

I just got my rejection today although I already knew I wouldn't receive an interview. Not to rain on anyone's hopes but I think if you haven't received anything yet no matter where you are in the US, you're getting a rejection.... I did email the program about why I didn't get an interview with what I thought was a solid application and basically there's nothing I could've done much better to get in, we all just applied to a year that was particularly hard to get an interview. The applicants apparently had years of experience (I'm talking 10 years or so), nearly perfect GRE and/or GPAs, and/or an inside connection to the admissions. That was what I was told for the AGNP specialty. They said any other year, I probably would have been interviewed.... I'm sooo happy for those of you who got an interview though, knock em' out!

Hello. I'm sorry to hear of your rejection. It is my 3rd time applying and second time interviewing so don't give up! I am curious as to what type of 10 years of experience admissions was talking about? I certainly don't have that and I am wondering if that is my downfall in the bad end results I have been getting applying to these Masters entry programs. I am starting to think I should just hunker down as a CNA and get more experience before reapplying if I don't get in.
