The MEPN deadline is less than 2 months away, so I thought I'd get a thread started for us 2012 hopefuls!
I'm a first time applicant to the WHNP/CNM specialty, and feel like I've been getting ready to submit this application for so long! I've been working abroad for a public health NGO for the past couple of years and am a trained birth doula. I've finished up all of my prereqs and GREs, selected people for recommendations (including a slightly awkward visit to my undergraduate advisor...), so now I'm just drafting my essays. Does anyone even know what the application is supposed to look like this year? I'm just going off samples I've seen from previous years.
Some days I feel sort of confident about my chances, and other days I feel as though this is a total shot in the dark and definitely not going to work out!
Any other hopefuls out there? And anyone know when the application is actually going to open?
Hi everyone - since we're down to less than 2 weeks until the application deadline, I just want to encourage you to check and see if your recommendations/transcripts have been received (if you can't already see that from the online application, which I couldn't).
I emailed UCSF found out that one of my transcripts hasn't been received, and it was the one that was a huge pain to get in the first place - getting it replaced is probably going to take until the last possible minute before the deadline...
How's everyone doing?
I'm definitely stressing out with this application. Still working on my goal statement...why is this SO hard to write!?!
Also, it has been a PAIN to get one of my recommenders to respond. It was written MONTHS in advance to prepare for his busy schedule. However, with all of the errors happening with the invitation process I hope he was not discouraged. It is an AMAZING recommendation and will surely boost my app but it's down to the wire and still cannot pinpoint if he has received anything from the school.
Getting nervous.
I can relate..it's hard to sum up yourself in 2 pages in a way that packs a punch! I am normally the person that reads everyone else's personal statements too! But, when I started writing and was just all over the place, my friend reminded me to just take a step back and narrow it down to just a few key things that I want to make sure the admissions committee knows about me and my past experiences. From there, it really helped my statement become more focused. I'm sure yours will be fine though!
On a different note, I hope your recommendation writer lets you know soon! Mine definitely had trouble receiving their email invitations, even when I clicked on the "send email reminder." Good luck!!
I was excited to stumble upon this forum just for UCSF MEPN applicants!
Just curious...Did you guys wait to submit your application after all of your recommendations were received? Can you still submit reminders to recommenders after submission? I've completed the application and am hoping to submit it ASAP but am waiting on two of the four recommendations...
So happy to be applying! Good luck to all.
I checked with UCSF before submitting my app, because not all my recommendations had come through - they said it was no problem to lock my application in advance. I'm not sure if you can send reminders through the online app after you've locked it (never could get any of the recommendation stuff in the app to work, so all mine went directly to the school).
Supposedly you can see online the status of all of your transcripts and recommendation letters after you've locked your application, but I don't think they've updated them at all yet - maybe they start doing this after the deadline.
LookingAhead, thanks for the reply! It's too bad that the online application had kinks because it looks like the bugs increased stress levels. I can't get my reminder notifications to send to my recommenders -- at least it's not indicating one was sent out (or I sent several without realizing it!).
I did call a few days ago about why my GRE scores are not showing as received even though they had been sent in July. The woman who answered my call at UCSF stated that they will update those sections towards the deadline or even after the deadline and will contact people if they still are still missing.
