I thought I would start a new thread. I've read quite a bit of the activity from previous classes and I thought it would be great to get a community of support started for those who have applied for UCSF's MEPN program... not just for us now, but for the future applicants who will read our posts! (: (the added bonus is this thread will be in gender neutral territory
Would love to hear the stories of folks who are applying to nursing programs (UCSF and otherwise).
Thanks!
I am referring to the Uni of San Fran., not the UC school, though.
My search for info continues...
Thanks!
Here is a link to University of San Francisco's BSN for 2nd degree - http://web.usfca.edu/nursing/bsn_2nd/. They really don't give much information on the program. For 2nd degree students, do you know if the program starts in the 3rd semester of Sophomore year? I think the only other course that is required to apply is General Psychology. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Hey guys you might want to check out this website. Its a blog written by a former MEPN student. It goes over some of the interview questions and also tells a little bit about how the program runs. http://oneyearnurse.blogspot.com/
Hello everyone! Congrats to those who were asked to interview. For those who were not, don't give up! I applied in 2006 and did not get an interview... I have been working at UCSF with patients for the last 2 years and reapplied and now have been invited for an interview for the ANP program on the 29th. Don't get discouraged, just use it as motivation to beef up your application next year! :)
Well it was an interesting experience. The interview invitation letter was confusing and inadequate so I was glad I arrived early. My letter said to meet "in N, in the medical sciences building xxx parnassus ave". Hospital information directed me to the nursing building because of the "N". Anyway to find the room you go into the medical sciences building and up the main staircase to the second floor, then its down a hallway to the left. I dont remember the exact turns I made but that should get you close. There will be a short presentation by a faculty member and you will get a handout telling you the time you will interview and whom you will be interviewed by. They also have multiple campus tours scheduled for either before or after your interview. Although the one scheduled for after my interview never materialized.. like they just forgot about it. Everyone is interviewed by 2 people in the same interview, 1 will be a faculty member and one a clinical nurse. My interviewers were very nice and talkative but it all depends who you get. I have to go back to work but I can give more information later if anyone wants it. Good luck.
Hey everyone,
I had a similar experience as Sandman- the room was very difficult to find, and I ended up going to the student affairs office to get directions (their office is in the nursing building, N, on the 3rd floor I believe). So definitely get there early to have plenty of time to search out the room.
The interview was pretty much as expected- the questions were much the same as in years past (there are some threads that offer lists of questions), and focused on what had led me to nursing and to my specialty (peds). It was of course nerve-wracking, but everyone was really nice and supportive, and the interview wasn't nearly as scary as I had anticipated- very conversational. I also missed out on the tour since, as Sandman mentioned, the last tour never happened. I figure we'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with the campus though when the time comes, so I wasn't too upset about that.
Well, I have to head off to work too, but if anyone has anymore specific questions, let us know. Otherwise, good luck to you guys- let us know how it goes!
Hey Sandman,
I got your personal message but I guess I can't send any yet. Maybe message me with your email address if you'd like to chat! But yes, we must have met, I'm just really bad with names.. were you in the morning group, and then waiting for the 11:10 tour in the orientation room?? I'm the current public health student applying for peds... remember?

Hello...I had not received my letter and called in today because I was scared that something had happened to either my application or letter...I was informed that all letters have been sent out to the permanent address...the person was kind enough to email me my letter within minutes. My online status had not changed from "Under Review", when I received my letter it was good news, so EPmepn, you probably have a good chance if your online status has not changed. Good Luck!
Also does anyone have any tips on how to prep for the interview? I have ideas, but just wanted to see what others are doing, thanks!
