UCSF MEPN Applicants for 2010 entry

Published

I thought I would start a new thread. I've read quite a bit of the activity from previous classes and I thought it would be great to get a community of support started for those who have applied for UCSF's MEPN program... not just for us now, but for the future applicants who will read our posts! (: (the added bonus is this thread will be in gender neutral territory ;)

Would love to hear the stories of folks who are applying to nursing programs (UCSF and otherwise).

Thanks!

hey mpcali, yea I was there I was the one with curly hair.. I think the other two guys were asian. Were you wearing a light grey suit and eating fruit? lol. Anyway everyone I met there was great, it made me want to be accepted even more! :)

Hey Sandman,

Yep that's me! I just sent you an email so we can keep in touch.

Thanks, Sandman and Mpcali, for sharing your interview experiences! Mine is this Friday. I have gleaned two things from your postings: 1) arrive super early and 2) try not to be in the last tour group (though I may not have much control over that). :)

I'm interviewing this Friday also and I definitely plan to arrive early after reading your posts! MPHgirl, does your letter say to arrive by 12:30? I'm wondering if everyone arrives at the same time.

HayleySB, my letter says to meet in "S" in the Medical Sciences Building and that the orientation program begins at 8:30 am and will end at 12:00 pm. So, I guess we don't all arrive at the same time. Interesting. What does yours say?

Mine says to meet in "N" no later than 12:30. Sounds like there are at least two groups!

I also interviewed Friday the 22nd with the afternoon group...I'm curious, Sandman and mpcali, if you could tell me approximately how many people were in your group in the morning? I think our group may have had about 30 folks. My interview experience was similar to both of yours, nice interviewers- very friendly. I did get a tour and since it was lead by a instructor our group took advantage and asked lot of questions about final selections and MEPN concerns- the tour itself was ok.

I interviewed for the ANP-HIV specialty...is anyone else out there interviewing for this specialty or ANP without a focus? I would like to hear about your interview if you care to share or I could share more about mine if interested.

Good Luck to everyone!

I have a feeling they were divided evenly among groups. I would guess between 20 and 30 were in my group.

I forgot to mention that my interview was VERY informal...we were in a very small office, so it felt very intimate (3 of us). The questions seemed to just be a part of a conversation you would have with someone who is interested in your goals. I was expecting it to be formal, like a formal job interview, but it was not like that at all, at least in my experience. Also at the end of the orientation (happens before the interviews) we were guided through an imagery and breathing relaxation exercise. It was helpful and I thought was great and considerate of them to do with us. During the orientation they emphasized on being "authentic" and being yourself because that's who they want to talk to. I'm not sure if they stick to the same agenda for each group, i'm assuming they do, so I hope this helps a little.

Your postings have all been very helpful! Thank you! :)

My interview was just like Gudlife's.. we met in a small office and it was very laidback and conversational. I would definitely also recommend focusing in on that breathing exercise- it was amazing and really calmed my nerves!

So it seems like there are 4 groups spread over two Fridays- one morning group arriving at 8:30 and one afternoon group arriving at 12:30 each day. Maybe about 20-30 per group (or at least so far). Hmm.. does that mean that they're only interviewing 120ish? Or I wonder if the groups this Friday will be a bit larger?? I guess you guys can let us know how many show up this week! Anyway, good luck to you all, you'll do great!

Hey Everyone,

I'm so happy to find this thread! I have an interview at UCSF this Friday the 29th in the afternoon. I'm interviewing for Perinatal Nursing, which it looks like not many people are doing. Thanks to everyone who shared their interview experience... I'm hoping my interview is as chill and conversational as yours were. Good luck to everyone! :)
