I have applied to UCSD's Oct 2010 New Grad Program, and wanted to start a thread pertaining to such. I applied 2 weeks ago, and today received an email that my resume has been forwarded to a hiring manager. I was wondering what progress others have made, and if anyone can share their current or previous experiences with their hiring process. Thanks! :)
Thx Gold22, I will say a prayer for you and everyone else who has applied =] Its so tough out there. My nursing professor said that the hiring shortage will soon be over and hospitals will be fighting over us. I seriously cant wait for that day to come.
* Does anyone know of any good webiste or books i can read to prepare myself for the interview. Thx!
I just received a phone call that I was selected for an interview with the Med/Surg float pool department at Thornton. Now its time to go get my interview questions together again. I am claiming that this is my breakthrough and that the job hunt struggle is over.
Hi!! I got an email today saying that the CCU hiring manager is looking at my resume. It looks like you got a phone call about 2 days after getting that email? Is that correct? I was wondering if you live in SoCal. I'm from the Bay Area and for the July New Grad, i got stuck at this phase too and never moved forward. I'm not sure if my address puts me at a disadvantage. Also, do you have any other healthcare experience? Looking back at the other threads for the previous new grad program, those that got the job were involved in the healthcare field for years. Lastly, did you do anything else like trying to track down the hiring manager or did you just get that phone call? I REALLY WANT AN INTERVIEW!!!
**good luck**

Hi and good luck as well during this process I also got stuck at that phase in July. I do live in SoCal and my address when I applied to a hospital in Murrieta played a factor in them hiring me hopefully this is not the case this time. I worked as a CNA for 5 years and I also completed a summer externship. I have my BSN, BLS and ACLS. I called the nursing recruiter who sent out the emails maybe two weeks after receiving the questionaire to ask if they had made decisions or not and she said it'll be in the next week and that's what happened after that I didn't talk to any one else.
Congrats Gem0607!!! I also got a phone call this morning for the medsurg float pool. Im going to be interviewed early next month. I hope we both get the positions.P.S. Maybe you can save me the trouble of contacting the nurse recruiter. Whats a float pool? Again, Congrats =]
Congrats True nurse25. It will be awesome when we get the position. We have to claim it and believe it. I'm not sure I'm guessing its where we will roatate through different units. I called but I didn't get an answer if you find out before me let me know.

Thanks for the response. Did you get the call for the interview after 2 days? I emailed HR and she said I can expect a call in 2 weeks.
And wow! yes, that experience helped. I actually did a Residency Program for student nurses for a year with the veterans affairs and I'm hoping this helps me out a lot. Also got my BSN, BLS, and ACLS, and graduated Magna Cum Laude. **fingers crossed** when is your interview?

Yes it was after two days def wasn't expecting to get a call so soon I think it varies by departments though. Well your background so very good so I hope you will be receiving a call soon.
True nurse: I received info as to what the med/surg float pool consists of. When hired we will be crossing training on telemetry, med/surg and oncology and I believe she said each training would be for 2 months. I'm not sure about you but I like the sound of that, telemetry is one of my strengths and desires so I'm very excited. I think it will be good to float to different units helps with your interpersonal skills and you are able to gain more knowledge and learn more skills.
Hi Gem0607, thanks for the info =] I also gathered some info regarding the Med-Surg Float pool from a new grad/colleague at the Hillcrest facility. The Med-surg Float Pool is this new thing they started where us new grads float to various units for 2 months at a time. Afterwards, we decide what unit we prefer to work on BUT it depends on other factors ie..space. I listed Telemetry, Med-surg and Oncology as my choices of interest on the questionnaire so to be able to float to all units is awesome. I heard each unit hired two nurses last July for a grand total of 22 hires. I hope this time around they increase the amount of new grads they hire. We have similar backgrounds. I worked as a Clinical, Medical Assistant for 8 yrs and externed on a Med-Surg/ Telemetry Unit for 3 semesters. I also have my BSN, BLS, and ACLS. Gem0607 were getting the positions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also listed those units I did my externship on an open heart floor and was on a telemetry floor for clinicals and my preceptorship. As to getting the positions I stand in agreement with you.
Passionate: You're welcome that's what this forum is for and I'm praying that I will be posting some good news sometime in Sept.
