Thought I'd start a thread for the new grad program at UCSD for Spring 2017!
Anyone applied so far? What units? Wanted to keep each other updated if we hear anything :)
Hello! I'm applying to a new GRad program. I have lots of questions that hopefully you guys can answer. How important is finding out the name of hiring manager to put it on the cover letter? What are some ways to find this info?
For those whose applications have been referred to manager or got an interview, did you include a cover letter? Where did you get your coverletter guidelines? Because I've been searching around and they have different advice. I'd really appreciate it if anyone could help me out. Thanks!

To find hiring managers, you can prob call HR and ask who will be reviewing applications. i've always just looked on the HR portion of the website to find out who the nursing recruiter is. If you are not completely sure, I wouldn't put a name. I usually start off my letter with "dear (specific name if I have) and talent acquisition:" or "dear (name) and nurse recruiter:"
how do you guys find the new grad positions? I just get taken to the home page every time I click the New Grad link. Someone please help
I just go to the career search page, type in new grad, select nursing jobs, and on the right hand side, theres a column saying available specialties. if there is a unit accepting new grad, there will be a category titled new grad, if not, then nothing is available. That is how i've been doing it, not sure how others are.
Hey congrats on the interview! I had a panel interview with the nurse manager on my floor, as well as 2 staff nurses. My advice is to make portfolios to bring in with resume, cover letter, certs, letter or rec, etc. the questions were all behavioral ... "tell me about a time when". None of them were too out there, but definitely prepare 5-6 stories that you could mold a bit to fit different questions. They were really nice and the interview felt rather relaxed. Good luck!! Let me know how it goes!
