UCSD New Grad 2017

Thought I'd start a thread for the new grad program at UCSD for Spring 2017!

Anyone applied so far? What units? Wanted to keep each other updated if we hear anything :)

where is the mental health job you took? is is a new grad position?

It is not a new grad position. I got hired with Mental Health Systems who is a non-profit that contracts with the county. They pay better than SNF, Alvarado and Paradise Valley, but not quite as high as a hospital. At least that's what I got. Glassdoor showed less than what I get as the average, so that was interesting. I enjoy psych nursing. M-F and good benefits. We will be looking for another nurse at my location soon, but I'm not sure if they want the second nurse to be an LVN. They have locations all over the state though.

any updates on the new grad L&D status? mine still says "referred to hiring department" since the 16th!

Does anyone know usually how long it takes to hear back from the unit once apps are forwarded to the managers?

It totally depends on the unit manager who is responsible for going through the resumes and what they have going on their plate. When can they get to that stack and make decisions on who to interview? How many people are going with through the stack with them? Can they get together at the same time? How urgently do they want to hire? Not too urgently? okay, weeks. I do know someone who was just called to interview for the BMT unit for a new grad position that opened at the same time as L&D, BUT that doesn't mean that L&D will call anyone today or even this week. If anyone HAS been called- please share!

I have still not heard anything and I have not heard from anyone that has. But good to know that the other unit is starting to call. Just a good indicator. Hopefully we will hear something by the end of the week

I heard from someone who just recently got hired as an experienced nurse that it took two weeks since her status changed to get a call and then another two weeks after her interview before she received a job offer.

The suspense is killing me. Referred to hiring dept but still no interview call....
