UCSD New Grad Residency Jan/Feb 2022

Published

Hello everyone! New Grad Nurse here! Just graduated and wondering if anyone else has applied to the UCSD New Grad Residency? Don’t know if anyone who has applied yet has heard back? My statuses just say “open”.

Congrats on your interview! Do you know if it's in-person or virtual?

I'd say the first thing to do is to research a bit about UCSD and the unit and figure out why you want to be a part of the unit? Usually most interviews start out with "Tell me about yourself" or "Why do you want to work for us/UCSD?"

Next, I would try to come up with some behavioral question examples such as "Name a time when you encountered a difficult patient. How did you react? or "Name a time when you received criticism from a preceptor. How did you respond to the criticism?"

I've noticed many units now don't ask very many (if not at all) any clinical based questions. The only unit that asked me those were the ICU but most units understand that this cohort has very limited clinical experiences and a lot of the managers I've talked to have expressed that they want to hire on personality/work ethic rather than expertise in clinical knowledge. They can train you on clinical stuff but they want personable, hardworking team players. Try to show that through your examples!

It's a virtual interview and it's a 30minute block. Due to increased COVID cases, they moved it from in-person. This is solid advice though! Thank you ?

Hi guys!! I applied for L&D, and I got a call today to schedule an interview. Has anyone had an interview? If so, how did it go?

Best of luck to everyone!

Hi! Did you have your interview?! How did it go? I want to apply next round!

How long after an interview do they get back to you?

It depends on the unit I believe but they are allotted a few weeks to get back to you (that's what the unit manager I interviewed told me). However, from what I heard...people usually hear back within a week or so.

It depends on the unit. I've heard back from an interview within a couple of hours and some take a couple of days to a week. UCSD ED extended offers today.

Hi Everyone!

I just had my status updated yesterday to "referred to hiring" for 5 WEST TRAUMA PCU! Fingers crossed I continue to the interview phase! Has anyone else received an interview or offer for this unit yet?

I had my interview on Monday and haven’t heard back either. I was hoping they’d call today! Anxiously waiting by the phone haha. Good luck to you too!

Hi Nurses!

I am a new graduate here. I have an interview for the ED position at UC San Diego this week. I wanted to know if anyone has tips or know the type of interviews questions they may ask?

This is a virtual interview.

Anything helps and thank you ?

I hope we hear back sometime this week! I am constantly checking my emails and application status LOL

Did you have to provide them with a nursing portfolio?
