UCSD New Grad Program Summer 2013

Published

Hello,

I recently applied for UCSD new grad summer 2013, and heard that they received over 900 applicants. I am unaware of the process of interviewing and application process, does any one have an idea? Have any one get a phone call? all I see is that my application were sent to hiring department. Waiting seem to be forever!!

Thanks

Hi RN013, is that what you've experienced?

I had a status "Refered to Hiring Department" for PCU and it didn't change for a long time. Got a rejection email shortly after receiving the Telemetry cancellation email.

Specializes in Ortho, Med-Surg, Tele, PCU, IMC, ICU.

hi lilsurfergirl - apparently, i can't send you a private message but if you could send me your email and I would be glad to answer any questions. thanks. :)

Anyone applied in August? Heard back yet? :)

I did! I applied for Thornton IMU and Hillcrest PCU... Both say "referred to hiring department." I know that's the first step in getting an interview but what we need to see is "under consideration." At least that is what I have gathered from reading this thread. Anyone know the timeline of when the status should change?

How long did you wait until you received a rejection email from the PCU? I'm trying to figure out the timeline as to when it would change to "under consideration."

I applied for the jobs that came out in May and got a rejection email at the end of June from the units that did not accept me. However, I just got hired on to work in the CCU at UCSD Hillcrest and I start orientation on Sept 17! Has anyone else been hired on yet for the October New Grad program?

Congrats on getting hired! The CCU is the cleanest critical care unit in Hillcrest and pretty recently renovated so it's nice. you'll also be working with an uber smart CNS so it'll be a good experience. Note that the CCU is no longer just a cardiac unit. It's more neuro/medicine and in house cardiac work ups. All cardiac patients brought in from the outside are taken directly to SVC so the patient population is gonna be different from what you expect.

What part of norcal are you from?

Thanks! I did a 7 week, 252 hour residency there so I'm already pretty familiar with the unit (which definitely helped my chances of getting hired). I love the CNS there and the neurocritical care team especially. I'm from Stockton. Are you from northern California?

Ya I'm from san jose. Did my senior preceptorship at SJG at French camp. I've never had to float to CCU but I know most of the dudes. It's a pretty awesome place to start.

My brother went through an LVN program in Stockton and did several rotations at SJG. He said the patient population was very interesting! I'm super excited to start working on the unit. Definitely a dream job. The managers, staff, and interdisciplinary teams are so knowledgeable and always willing to help! Best of luck in your future job search! Let me know if you have any questions!

@Erin44RN It took quite a while. Best I can determine statuses that don't change within a few weeks are destined for rejection. I've applied again for New Grad positions since then and each one has stayed "Application Received" and I haven't received an official rejection, but I think it's safe to say 2-3 weeks without word is pretty much a rejection.
