Just curious. In the past when I have posted resumes with UCSD, at the end of the application, it asks for the year you graduated as an RN. Is this a way to get around age discrimination?

Could do that, but it also tells them how long (how much experience) you have as a nurse. They could always go back and add up the years on your job experiences if they were really determined to figure out how old you are.

It's experience discrimination, which is totally legal and legit.

Given the incredibly wide age range of nursing students these days, that's not a particularly productive way to try to find out age, if that's their intent -- I agree the question is about experience, not age.

Yeah its not exactly the most accurate way to determine age everybody has started there nursing career at wide range of ages , so I think they use it as a gauge to see how much experience you have !
This question always comes at the very last of your application. Your resume shows your work history.

Does the app not ask for your birth date?
I still stand by my opinion.
Maybe for it's for verifying your credentials? I dunno.
Age discrimination does seem a little far fetched...

I think it's probably an innocent question, again looking for length of RN licensure, experience, etc. Not everyone includes every bit of experience on a resume, some only do last 10-15 years, or 3-4 employers.
No. But I believe date of graduation could easily provide a close approximation to age.
