Hello to all prospective UCLA Nurses!
My name is Matthew and I'm a CSU Long Beach alumnus.
I'm currently working as a Super User RN for the UCLA Health System.
I hope this thread will be able to answer our questions about the application, interview process and a place for any updates anyone receives for the 2013 new grad program.
With that said, I was told by recruitment that applications will be made available in March. :)
Hi Everyone! I just graduated school with my BSN and passed my NCLEX but dont have a license number yet because my school has lagged on sending my transcripts to the BRN. I completed my preceptorship in the ED and it is my dream to work for UCLA. Anyway I applied to the SMH ED as my first choice and as of today my status still says online assessment complete. Has anyone heard updates on ED positions? Thanks!
Hey guys!Just wanted to give some facts about ucla newgrad 2013. We all signed up via the link that they gave us. No confirmation email will be sent. If the time slot became full after you signed up, that means youre the last person to sign up for that time slot. There are three 20 min in 1 hour so 3 person per hour. For people who applied and will be interviewed at medsurg/tele in santa monica by --------------be prepared for a 2nd interview with ACTING. Yes, acting!!! It will be an all day panel interview with 6-8 people. Nurses, managers and directors. In the morning, its going to be a regular panel interview, then they will feed you lunch, then acting part of the interview will begin! Those panel of interviewers will pretend that they are the patient, the doctor, lvn, cna and you are going to be the nurse. They will give you a scenario that you will act. For example: give this lasix to your patient. So what youre going to do is act. Knock on the door, say "hi my name is alexes, im gonna be your nurse today". Then they will act as well and give you a bunch of questions makng you feel like you dont know anything! Seriously. For those people who applied at liver sicu at ronald reagan, --------------- will be interviewing you. She wont ask you anything but your resume. No clinical qs maybe 1 or 2 behavioral qs. She looks really really nice and sound really really nice! You'll even think you got the job. but NO! if you didnt do your preceptorship at any icu or critical care she wont consider you. No second interview. just say bye to ucla new grad residency. ICUs always has at least 10 openings! But for liver sicu, she'll just get whatever and whoever she wants. 1 or 2 or 8. As long as she likes you. It doesnt matter where yougot your letter of rec or if you have 4.0 GPA. (I should know bec my letter came from liver transplant manager and NOTHING HAPPENED). If she dont like you, she will never like you. GPA doesnt matter at UCLA. L&D is very very competitive. MICU is hard to get in also, comepetitive, with 2 nd interview and the director will not hire you if he dont like you as well. Anyways.. , goodluck to all of you! And to me :)
Dear ChilRN,
Bless your heart for this infor. I m interviewing for liver icu. I didnt do my preceptorship at the icu but i have done over 100 clinical hrs in the ICU in nursing school. Do you think that is good enough for ------------------ ?
A little FYI on other units.
Oncology - management is tough. My friend finished her new grad rotation there and left after completing one year. They expected perfectionist. FYI. She tried her best and even had oncology experience prior to hire. However, it wasnt good enough.
L&D- high turning over rate. 3 of my colleagues got hired on as new grads in 2011. My friends were cute and attractive type of girls (dont mean to sound shallow - but i hey that's what it is right? lol). But management there is a big question... wonder why most staff there left? They dont back up their staff.
Dont mean to scare you all, but a good to know or have questions in the end you want to ask them.

is that at least 10 openings for each icu's or a total of at least 10 opening
Does anyone know if they're still going to schedule interviews this week? My status hasn't changed and I'm losing hope. I did my immersion/preceptorship on the Liver ICU and put it as my first choice but haven't heard anything.
Congrats to those who got interviews!!! And from what I've heard I believe its 10 spots per ICU.

Thanks so much for the info. So nervous about my interview with NICU. Hopefully no acting for that!
