UCLA New Grad RN 2013

Published

Hello to all prospective UCLA Nurses!

My name is Matthew and I'm a CSU Long Beach alumnus.

I'm currently working as a Super User RN for the UCLA Health System.

I hope this thread will be able to answer our questions about the application, interview process and a place for any updates anyone receives for the 2013 new grad program.

With that said, I was told by recruitment that applications will be made available in March. :)

Goodluck to everyone !

I will be interviewing for liver ICU. Is anyone flying from out of state ? I'm from MD ...I'm excited !

Wow so many out of state. That is good though - if you guys are willing to fly to California it really shows you'll be dedicated to UCLA.

I have friends in Southern California that wont apply to jobs beyond their own county :roflmao:

Just scheduled interview for Nuero/Trauma ICU.

BQ

Awesome! I am also scheduled for NTICU. looking at the RSVP signup, I'm guessing there are ~20-30 candidates.

To you guys think its time to give up hope for a status change at this point?

LMAO they must really love that county !

Was wondering the same thing - did anyone from emergency medicine or OR receive a status change yet?

Is cardiac ICU the same as Cardiothoracic 7icu?

I'm assuming you're trying to differentiate between the CCU - Coronary Care unit and the CTICU Cardio Thoracic ICU. These floors are quite different. Think of the CCU as the ED for the heart. People come in here with fresh STEMIs, AAAs, CHF exacerbation that usually requires surgery - stents, resections, valve replacements. These patients then go to the CTICU for postop care. Equipment also differs a lot: CCU has IABP (Balloon pumps), cooling, swans where as CTICU - chest tubes, drains. Hope this helps.

Question for people who scheduled interview via the email link. Did you get a confirmation email?

There will be no confirmation in that kind of interview sign up form

Hey guys!

Just wanted to give some facts about ucla newgrad 2013. We all signed up via the link that they gave us. No confirmation email will be sent. If the time slot became full after you signed up, that means youre the last person to sign up for that time slot. There are three 20 min in 1 hour so 3 person per hour. For people who applied and will be interviewed at medsurg/tele in santa monica by ------------, be prepared for a 2nd interview with ACTING. Yes, acting!!! It will be an all day panel interview with 6-8 people. Nurses, managers and directors. In the morning, its going to be a regular panel interview, then they will feed you lunch, then acting part of the interview will begin! Those panel of interviewers will pretend that they are the patient, the doctor, lvn, cna and you are going to be the nurse. They will give you a scenario that you will act. For example: give this lasix to your patient. So what youre going to do is act. Knock on the door, say "hi my name is alexes, im gonna be your nurse today". Then they will act as well and give you a bunch of questions makng you feel like you dont know anything! Seriously. For those people who applied at liver sicu at ronald reagan, ---------------- will be interviewing you. She wont ask you anything but your resume. No clinical qs maybe 1 or 2 behavioral qs. She looks really really nice and sound really really nice! You'll even think you got the job. but NO! if you didnt do your preceptorship at any icu or critical care she wont consider you. No second interview. just say bye to ucla new grad residency. ICUs always has at least 10 openings! But for liver sicu, she'll just get whatever and whoever she wants. 1 or 2 or 8. As long as she likes you. It doesnt matter where yougot your letter of rec or if you have 4.0 GPA. (I should know bec my letter came from liver transplant manager and NOTHING HAPPENED). If she dont like you, she will never like you. GPA doesnt matter at UCLA. L&D is very very competitive. MICU is hard to get in also, comepetitive, with 2 nd interview and the director will not hire you if he dont like you as well. Anyways.. , goodluck to all of you! And to me :)
