Summer hopefuls talk here.... good luck to us all!!! :redbeathe
Graduation time is so nerve wrecking, but you'll get through it! You're right about not being able to pick an NCLEX date yet - you need your transcripts first (sorry, I forgot about that part!). Has your school provided you with detailed instructions on how to sign up for the NCLEX and apply for a nursing license? If not, ask your adviser - it's not hard, but it's nice to know exactly what the steps are. Once you know the steps, just line everything up that you'll need in order to sign up for the NCLEX so that once your transcripts arrive, you'll be all set to turn everything in.Taking it at the end of June is a great idea. . . it's tempting to put it off, but the sooner you take it the better! I think giving yourself about 4 weeks to REALLY study and practice is perfect!
The test is scary, but I know you'll do great! Are you taking an NCLEX course? I took Kaplan. It definitely helped me to focus my studies and the built in study schedule helped me keep on track with practice questions. Whether it's Kaplan or another course, I think it's helpful to have a study plan and guide.
Finally, as far as transferring your license to CA, go to the CA Board of Nursing website, and there are instructions on what to do. Deal with this AFTER you take your NCLEX and don't have other things on your plate, but familiarize yourself with it so that you're ready to mobilize your paperwork when your nursing license is issued!
Thanks for your input! I definitely don't want to deal with it yet, lol.
Did you interview at UCLA? I'm too lazy to look through. If so good luck!
Hi!I'm from WA and am applying for my CA license by examination as opposed to switching it over. You can register for NCLEX through pearsonvue ahead of time, but you won't get your auth to test until after your transcripts have been recieved by the board of nursing (in whatever state you are applying for your license in). The CA application is complicated in that you have to get fingerprinted, but they have to send you the fingerprinting card, which takes a couple weeks. If you are applying for a NY license, then transferring it to CA, look at the BRN website for CA and see the process for the license. if they also require you to get fingerprinted for the reciprocity, i'd deal with that ahead of time! Other than that, it shouldn't be too difficult to transfer your license after you take NCLEX; really just a matter of filling out all the paperwork and sending in the fee.
Thanks for your input. This makes me feel a lot better. If I need to be fingerprinted I hope I can somehow do that in NY and have them sent over or something. I would apply to take it in CA like you if I knew I for sure had a job there, but I don't know! So I'm just going to play it safe and take it in NY where I'm comfortable. Cali is so unfamaliar I just kind of didn't want any more stress on me during the test..like finding the place, paying for the flight, etc. Did you interview at UCLA// already have a job?
Thanks to everyone for sharing. Has anyone received a second interview or offer from the Cardiothoracic ICU? I interviewed on the 11th and haven't heard anything so am wondering about their process.
I think we may have interviewed with the same person because i THINK shes manager of both the CTICU and the cardiac surgery floor (which I applied to.) I guess I received a second call back, because right at the end of my interview on the 14th she asked me to come back the next day at 10 am and page her so i could see the unit and meet the clinical director or CNS or whoever that was.. She knew because I lived in NY that I wouldn't be able to come back next week. I didn't get offered the position on the spot after the tour like the lucky person did for the MICU, but she did say she would call me this week. So I don't know if mine counts as a call back or just a courtesy because I'm from across the country. It's driving me NUTS!
I'm not sure if you're from the LA area because then maybe she just didn't ask people back for tours yet, or maybe its totally different for the CTICU in general, but I think it will be a while until we hear anything because I think shes handling two floors. She told me she interviewed 12 people for the cardiac surgery unit, do you know how many were for the CTICU? I hope you hear back soon.
Thanks for responding to me allie58D! I don't know if we interviewed with the same person. I do live in LA. Many many congrats on getting an immediate call back. I'd love if you let me know if you or anyone else who is reading this hears anything else from either the Cardiothoracic ICU or just the RRMC 7th floor in general. Like everyone else I'm incredibly hopeful but not having heard anything yet is making the despair creep in a bit.
Some of of you that interviewed with Renee the 7th floor unit Dir. I don't know what she told some of you, but she told me that she will start calling two weeks after the interview. She also told me that she is interviewing 12 for cardiac surgery unit, but will need 4 for sure and MAY BE, MAY BE 3 later. Those of you who already received a second call from her, good luck to you. Some of us that are still waiting, jsut be patient and wait till after next week. Wishing all you the best!!!

You are giving me a heart attack. She only needs FOUR? And for the may be three later, does that mean a total of possibly 7? Thanks so much for your input. She told me shes interviewing 12 and hiring "quite a few," That she will be mulling over the interviews this week and start calling by the 25th.

Hi Allie58D,
I went to NY for nursing school but waited til I got back to CA to do the fingerprints, and so glad I did. CA's BRN is picky about where they get the fingerprints from and they prefer live scan. I don't know if this applies to license transfers, but just a heads up. It's also best to email them with your questions rather than call, they're not very receptive to phone calls (based on experience ).
