Summer hopefuls talk here.... good luck to us all!!! :redbeathe
Hi, Allie58D! I was thinking about your post, and I totally understand your concerns. However, I really think that the folks at UCLA wouldn't have brought you all the way out here if you didn't have a real chance:) I'm not sure exactly when the new grad program starts, but at one point, there was a posting that said July/August, which will give you time to secure your license. When are you taking the NCLEX?!
Hi!
I don't know, am I supposed to know?! I thought I couldn't sign up and pick a date until I graduated and my school sent my proof of graduation in. I plan on taking it toward the end of June some time. But then theres the whole transferring an NY license to cali deal, which I have no idea about how long that takes...my mind is just like bombarded with too many things. What if I fail it?! lol.

Yeah, I was wondering about that too.. cuz I'm going to be starting in the MICU but I don't know how to get my California license and how long that whole process will take. Plus, I'm relocating. But I think you have to wait for your school to send your transcripts to the NCLEX people, and then they will send you a letter saying that you can register for your nclex.. i think...
and you wont fail!!!! seriously! =D
thank you! hm, I had the interview on Monday the 11th, got an email that thursday to schedule a second call back on either the following monday or friday to tour the unit and talk to the CNS.. and then that monday during the call back they offered me the position.. I think if you get the second callback your chances of getting hired are pretty good.. so it was exactly one week after my in person interview. but the manager said every unit is different and other people may not hear back for weeks, even though they are selected or considered.. especially since each unit is hiring different amounts of new grads.. but I didn't graduate yet so don't let that discourage you =)
Graduation time is so nerve wrecking, but you'll get through it! You're right about not being able to pick an NCLEX date yet - you need your transcripts first (sorry, I forgot about that part!). Has your school provided you with detailed instructions on how to sign up for the NCLEX and apply for a nursing license? If not, ask your adviser - it's not hard, but it's nice to know exactly what the steps are. Once you know the steps, just line everything up that you'll need in order to sign up for the NCLEX so that once your transcripts arrive, you'll be all set to turn everything in.
Taking it at the end of June is a great idea. . . it's tempting to put it off, but the sooner you take it the better! I think giving yourself about 4 weeks to REALLY study and practice is perfect!
The test is scary, but I know you'll do great! Are you taking an NCLEX course? I took Kaplan. It definitely helped me to focus my studies and the built in study schedule helped me keep on track with practice questions. Whether it's Kaplan or another course, I think it's helpful to have a study plan and guide.
Finally, as far as transferring your license to CA, go to the CA Board of Nursing website, and there are instructions on what to do. Deal with this AFTER you take your NCLEX and don't have other things on your plate, but familiarize yourself with it so that you're ready to mobilize your paperwork when your nursing license is issued!
Hi, I have my interview next week. I was told I don't need to bring a resume, cover letter, or letters of rec since they already have those on file. Did any of you who interviewed last week bring a portfolio or anything of that sort? I feel like with only 20 minutes there wouldn't be enough time for that?
Thanks!

There really isn't time for anything but Q&A. I brought a copy of an article I wrote, but I didn't hand it to the manager until I was walking away b/c I didn't want to take up any question time.

Did everyone already graduate and pass their NCLEX, or are there people who interviewed who graduate this may like me? The self doubt portion of waiting has set in, and I'm totally convinced I'm not going to get it because I don't have my license yet.
Also at my interview I asked some girls if they were on allnurses, and didnt come across anyone! just came across people who creep on the site and dont post, lol
