UCLA New Grad one year program 2011

Published

I am graduating this December 2010 as an ADN. I want to make sure I apply for UCLA's new grad program the day the application opens. Is there anyone else with this plan? Does anyone have the link to where this application will appear? I have looked at many informational screens but have not found a link to an application. I figured it might be on the UCLA job search site, so I opened a profile there. I do not live in CA, I am out of state. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

2 years to get into a new grad RN program. Most of them started asking for a BSN after I graduated in Dec 2008. I went ahead got my BSN and I'm on an MSN program right now. I figure the more education I have the more I can compete with other candidates. I think that I just need to separate/stand out against other candidates.

Hi everyone!

I know not getting a call to do the TalentPlus interview is depressing (I feel the same way), but don't lose hope. I applied for the Summer cohort, and was originally waitlisted. But being waitlisted doesn't necessarily mean rejected. I eventually got a call to do the TalentPlus interview, interview with the nurse recruiter, and interview with the nurse manager around late June. The whole process happened in about 2 weeks. Unfortunately, I didn't get the position, so I'm trying to apply again. I didn't know that the timing of submitting the application was such a big deal, but I'm still hoping that I'd get a second chance.

Hang in there! We're all in this together. Good luck to everyone!

I've been reading these posts since I grauated in May and passed the boards in Sept, and just decided to join in. My advice, Keep searching for jobs while you are waiting to hear back from UCLA. I too am in the pack after completing the TalentPlus interview. While I was waiting, I kept checking each AM especially the simplyhired and indeed website and have probably put in a dozen more apps . I also called hospitals like Loma Linda, Palomar, Tri City, Sharp, etc. Even though they all don't technically have new grad positions listed, at Loma Linda you can apply the any Clincial Nurse B position if it fits. This is true for many hospitals. Sometimes they list them as RN I positions, I only found this out taking with HR. Luckily I did that, was called last week with Loma Linda, had an interview on Monday ( not a grilling panel but 3 separate 30 minute interviews) , and got the job yesterday as an OncologyRN. It seems they don't list the jobs as new grad because they don't want the 2000 applicants. There were only 10 of us interviewing for 5 positions but they liked all of us so we all made it. Turns out it is a full new grad program with classes, preceptorship, etc. I really hope those of you hanging in there for UCLA get the good news you want but don't stop looking. Good Luck!

I hate to reply because every time I see someone post I think maybe someone got a phone call from UCLA...but this waiting is killing me! I tried to play it cool and talk myself into thinking I won't get too worked up or excited about this opportunity because the competition is so fierce. But now waiting to hear back, going on 3 1/2 weeks from the talentplus interview, I am so anxious to hear back because I would give anything to get a spot in the NICU at UCLA. Is anyone else going crazy waiting? With every passing day my anxiety increases as I realize just how very much I want this.

I am also very anxious about hearing from UCLA, but from what I have read from previous threads, it is best to keep myself open to other positions at other hospitals. Which is what I am attempting to do, but it is def. a diffcult time for new nurses right now. I check this thread often to see if anyone has gotten a reply from UCLA, but it seems like it has not happened yet, hopefully soon we will hear something.

LOL, I know how you feel! Every time a 'new post alert' is sent to my email for this thread, I freak out just a little. I agree with what other posters have been suggesting--keep sending out other applications in the meantime. It'll help set up a "Plan B" and keep us busy (and somewhat distracted, haha).

I know the feeling. I wish we can just all get hired but that's not possible. I've been waiting and waiting. Even checking other forums if someone got a call yet so I can brace myself.. ahhhhh

Hi everyone!

@monkeysarecute -- Wow it must be devastating to go through all that and not get the position :(. I really hope things work out this time around! I was wondering if you could shed a little light on the interviews you described. For example, are the interviews with the Recruiter and Manager separate, or is it a panel interview, etc. If they are separate, were they on the same day or different days? I'm just trying to get a feel of what to expect should I be fortunate enough to be called (haven't heard yet since the TalentPlus interview). Any insight you're willing to share would be great! Thanks in advance, and good luck :)

@VanessaRN: I called UCLA, and they said that for the people who interviewed with TalentPlus will find out whether they will go to the next round of interviews by December 10th.

pinky2010-did they say whether or not those going on are going to be doing the nurse recruiter interview first or going straight to nurse manager interviews?

no they didn't provide that information. all they told me were was that they were behind schedule due to a large applicant pool. she told me to wait til the end of next week and we should all be getting something in our email. btw, how did your talentplus interview go because i felt like i got run over a bus after it was over with.

I thought the talentplus went ok except for one question where I couldn't get out of my head a real life situation. I know they wanted answer x but I gave them answer z because I couldn't get out of my head the reality of the what happens at the hospital. I don't want to give the exact question so I don't look like a total idiot but other than that I think it went pretty well. I think we all felt exhausted and run over by a bus by the end of it. Its one of those things were its impossible to know exactly what the cutoff point is or what they were looking for. No matter what I know I gave it my all. Thats all we can ask from ourselves. I can appreciate the gigantic applicant pool that UCLA has to deal with. And I am grateful that they have a new grad program at all. But this long waiting period is really difficult. I hope I never have to go through something like this again. Its so anxiety producing and trying to keep up hope and optimum effort for such a long period of time.
