UCLA MECN 2017

Published

Hey, I am currently getting ready to apply to the UCLA MECN program. I went to UCLA yesterday to meet with the nursing advisor and since I have 2 C's, one in psych and one in Stats, she advised me to repeat one of them because I can't have more than one C on my transcripts. I plan on taking Micro this fall. In terms of work experience, I work with an agency facilitating care for end of life patients. I really want to get into the UCLA program but I will also be applying to CSULA, CSUN, CSUCI, CSUSM and USF, Western and

Anyway, I just wanted to create a thread for those applying same time as I so we can discuss. Fyi I will be attending the info session on July 26!

I really want to specialize though so I'm kind of bummed that the MECN doesn't offer a specialty, I would have to do a post-masters program.

How many classes can you have in progress when applying?

If a class is repeated, do they average the two or disregard the lower grade totally?

How much is the program in total?

Do MECN graduates make more in terms of salary than BSNs?

STAFF UPDATE

Tell us about UCLA by visiting University of California (UCLA) School of Nursing | Peer Reviews.

I submitted a new resume via email. Did you?

Yes. Sent it in to MC. Just the long wait now :nailbiting:

What other programs did everyone apply/are applying to? Is UCLA your first choice??

I only applied to mecn. If I don't get in, I'll apply everywhere else that's local, but UCLA has pretty much been my 1st/only choice for more than a year

Does anyone know when we start to hear back?

I applied only to UCLA MECN. If I don't get in, I'll apply to CSULA. @jeanetaurora last years thread they got some letters in late Feb I think.

I've only applied to UCLA as well for now. In the process for UCI, Davis, Mt St Mary's, Concordia, and Western in the fall. UCLA is definitely my first choice. When my app was complete, MC emailed back saying we'd hear back by late March. I hope it's early too like previous threads!

I have two friends that got in last year and they were notified 2/10...fingers crossed we hear around that time too

I hope so! The wait is killing me!

Would anyone like to post updated stats? Curious to see where everyone in this cohort is coming from! Since I completed my undergrad in December, I can officially share mine:

3.45 cum GPA, 3.53 pre req GPA, EMT supervisor, CCE graduate from GAMC

I'm hoping the LOR and SOP were both good enough, but I guess we'll see come March

Just know that all the acceptances didn't go out on the same day last year. (Or any year from what I've read) they started on 2/10 last year and my friend read it on here and was gutted, thinking she didn't get in...she got her acceptance a week later! I know I will freak out when/if acceptances start rolling out and I haven't heard yet

I also applied to APU and Western , I got into APU and have an interview for Western on Monday. APU and Western are about 3 to 4 yr programs but they lead u to Nurse Practitioner. UCLA is just R.N
