UCLA MECN 2016

Published

Hey there, I am planning on applying to the UCLA MECN 2016 program and was wondering if anyone else out there was applying as well. Just curious about other applicants and hoping to go through this application process with some other people! Would love any feedback. Thanks :)

Hello there, thanks for the stats.. I don't expect to get into the program but it's good to see where I need to be as far as competition. However, I was told (from UCLA) that no advantages were given to current UCLA students. As far as statement, you're absolutely right and I've only heard how important it is. March is far away... :'(

Has anyone received any application updates?

@knenopoulos, in an email I received back in Nov, it stated that we should receive updates about the status of our applications between March and April. It is SUCH a long wait.... and I really hope it comes sooner than that.

The epidemiology class is offered in the summer, I believe session C. You can go to the class schedule though and look, it has the tentative calendar up already. :)

Hi, @knenopoulos! My stats are: BS in Health Sciences (emph. in Healthcare Management from Cal State, grad w Honors in Major, but I don't remember my overall GPA); 3.6 GPA in Pre reqs (haven't taken Epidemiology yet); I am in the care extender program at UCLA and have been a CASA since 2013. Previous (non-clinical) work experience for Tenet Health, a reference laboratory and diagnostic manufacturer. My LORs came from my current boss, one of my past bosses and a supervisor at one of my former volunteer groups. I have no idea about the strength of my personal statement. I did my best on it.

I spoke with a (retired) dean of one of the other grad schools at UCLA before I applied to make sure I was on the right track in my preparation. His feedback was essentially that everything I was doing in the was on the right track. He stated that while my stats are strong, the competitiveness of the program and the size of the classes does not mean I am a sure bet (I have never thought I am). His other insight was that nursing (and med) schools have their own way of doing things that can be very grey” to outsiders (i.e. the non-clinical schools), but they have very good reputation and a degree from them is a strong career assist.

So, as March grows closer, I grow more anxious because of the silence of the unknown. If I don't get accepted, it will be disappointing. If I do get accepted, then my anxiety will change over to be about paying for school, studying for school, and doing well in school. Fun!

P.S. The Epidemiology class is Jun 20-Jul 29, I believe. The info is online at the UCLA website.

p.s something should be coming out soon! I was told march-april also for the NP, but was accepted Feb 10th. Note this is for NP NOT MECN, but the emails are rolling out for each program slowly!

Hi everyone,

Like rionurse, I also got my admission notice on February 10. But I am a MECN applicant and not NP. I recieved an email from the UCLA graduate division regarding their decision status on my application. So expect getting an email from UCLA soon!

Best of luck to everyone!

Hi all, I applied to MECN program as well and waiting for an email update. This is the most stressful time, the waiting game. Congrats HaiNurse on getting accepted for the program! I also applied to Cal State Fullerton and on 02/10 got an email with invitation for an interview! Hope to get accepted to both, UCLA is my top choice, of course!

I hope all of the acceptance emails weren't all sent the same day. Sending positive vibes to all! Hope we hear something soon.

OMG Congrats!!!!

Could please share some info: like what the letter looks like and what your first name and last name start with? Ahh you making me nervous man !

Also, did you get an email or did you have to long on to the UCLA website to check?

Congrats HaiNurse! This is definitely making me worried though! Guessing we won't hear anything else from UCLA until Tuesday. The suspense! The site says that a decision hasn't been reached on my application yet.

How can you check on the site? every time i try here (https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/myApplication/Login.aspx) it doesn't work. can u link the cite for me to see if its the same one? Thank you!
