Hey there, I am planning on applying to the UCLA MECN 2016 program and was wondering if anyone else out there was applying as well. Just curious about other applicants and hoping to go through this application process with some other people! Would love any feedback. Thanks :)
Hey guys,
Just an FYI...Try to refrain from using the names of the staff when posting. Just use initials because it's not polite to throw names out there and it should be confidential to a certain extent. We al ready know who they are so it's probably best to just use an initial. I wouldn't want my name bounced around like that so I'm just saying we should at the least, give them the same amount of respect. Not being sassy, I'm really just being mindful! No offense to anyone but their names have been mentioned allot on this thread, so I'm just making a suggeation. I hope no one gets offended by this because I really don't mean any harm!
Is anyone applying for graduate housing? I looked on the site and it seemed like getting a two bedroom apartment on Hilgard was quite a bit cheaper than renting from the surrounding apartments..
Yes I am! I applied the day I found out I wa accepted. I actually put preference on the Venice-Barry units which is cheapest.
Hello FocusedonBecoming! How far is Venice-Barry? Too far too walk I presume? I live in Westwood right now in the apartment close to campus and was just going to get a roommate after the summer but the graduate housing is so much better (in price anyway, I don't know what the inside looks like). I got kind of lucky to be on a quieter street in a decent apartment for $1500, but that's a one bedroom while a 2 bedroom townhouse on Hilgard was even less. I wonder how difficult it is to get one. :/
Hello future nurses of the world...

So venice-barry is about 5 miles away from campus (im not sure if the area is considered mar vista or palms); I went to check it out last weekend just to learn of the area, wasn't anything special but def in my price range. Wherever you choose to stay graduate housing in my opinion is definitely the way to go but personally im sticking to the options available outside of westwood because I will no longer be working. also the options I am referring to are the family/ mixed use options on the site keystone/mentone is another that may be available to us. The rates in weyburn and hilgard are per person and the others are per unit.
Availability is extremely limited for all grad housing so I would apply asap and return the additional housing related forms from the program.

Thanks for all the info, it is much appreciated! And glad to know that I misunderstood what I read, I thought the prices on Hilgard were great. I guess maybe I'll just keep the apartment I have. I'll definitely take a look at those links though!
Isn't graduate housing pricy? Cheapest monthly rate is $1200... does that mean we have our own room? Or is that the price for the entire apartment? I wonder if it's furnished.
Right now I live in Westwood with my roommates and I'm planning to stay here because it's only $600/month. Compared to graduate housing...
let me know, I'm a little confuse.

Valid concerns; I've definitely been researching the options for a while. If you choose to live in hilgard or weyburn which are walkable to campus it is pricey in my opinion. These options are all- inclusive but are rated per person so you will essentially have your own space whether studio or 2 bedroom but you and your roommate if 2/bed will be paying the rate of around 1200- 1400 each depending on what type of unit you get. Also from what I've found on them parking seems like a bit of a hassle.
On the other hand there are options in the palms/ mar vista area that range from around 1100-1600 per unit. You can opt to share a room i believe but for the cost there is really no need to do so. They include parking and a free shuttle that runs to and from campus from 7 am- 10 pm. Cable and internet is also included here but tenants pay gas and electric.
Each of these options are extremely limited and with the affordability and benefits its a no brainer why. I hope this helps, grad housing has definitely won me over as a prime option.

@MsBerry I didn't receive a deadline from R. In the letter received from the Graduate Division they did say that there was a deadline to complete SIR but never said when the deadline actually was? The SIR is simple and it only took me a couple of mins to complete so fill it out ASAP. Not sure about a depost, that wasn't mentioned @ all in the emails that I received.
