Hey there, I am planning on applying to the UCLA MECN 2016 program and was wondering if anyone else out there was applying as well. Just curious about other applicants and hoping to go through this application process with some other people! Would love any feedback. Thanks :)
@Luv4God, I apologize- I misunderstood and thought you were still waiting to hear about your status. I am also waitlisted, and although I'm pretty far down on that list, I will also continue to "wait" until UCLA is no longer taking applicants from the waitlist for Fall 2016.
If it brings you any peace, I read that UCLA graduate division has not sent "official" acceptance letters out yet, and someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think you might need to receive that offer before they can "officially" count a rejected offer, and turn that offer over to the next person. Until that point, I would assume they would not admit people off the waitlist, until they have something in writing that an offer was made by the university and the applicant rejected it. Point being, it may be some time before even the top waitlisters hear anything because of the legality involved.
Of course, this is all just my "imagined" response, but if it's of any comfort or relevance, my mother was a nursing professor at a prestigious university and sat on the board of nursing admissions for many years. My opinions stem from her advice and experience with another different, but similar application process.
Hope this helps-
I known, same over here. I found it comforting to distract myself. I started looking at other programs to apply to and preparing myself for their individual requirements, so I have a plan b. I feel like it's a good idea for me to stay focused on the goal, not the route. I also do yoga, and try to take time out for myself to relax, like taking hot baths and preparing good healthy snacks. I walk the dog the "scenic route" haha. Just whatever I can to be kind to myself. It's done- apps are in and decisions are made and maybe we'll get bumped up, and maybe not. Just stay focused on your goal.
I remind myself why I want to be a nurse everyday and I think about how I can put this into my personal statement next time, if I have to. It makes the short term goals not so daunting, ya know?
Whatever you do, don't worry, it doesn't change or help the outcome but it does hurt you. We've all taken A&P and we know what stress can do to the body.
Lmbo.... @_sarah_
You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! We do know what stress can do to the body, so thanks A&P and Psych as well! I think being kind to ourselves sounds like wonderful idea. I am so with you on there being nothing we can do about the decisions that have already been made. I'm not giving up just yet. I feel really good about the waitlist because it's just another way of confirming how great of a job we've done to get to this point! We made the waitlist! There are so many applicants that applied to UCLA and through it all we still have a chance. We didn't get DENIED which says allot, so hang in there guys, this see saw can still be tilted upwards! (That's the positive angle just in case you guys are wondering) I'm rooting for ALL the waitlisters! #TEAMWAITLIST! Don't be discouraged by your number, better yet if you don't know your number, try not to ask! :)

Actually, I haven't taken Anatomy or Physio, lol. But I know what you mean and you have a good attitude. UCLA was not the only school I applied to either, considering how hard it is to get in it would have been silly to do so, but it is the one I want the most. I have a good feeling and am remaining positive, and if it doesn't work out, well.. I already know what I need to do. I guess I just don't want to make final arrangements prematurely, ya know? And I seriously have enough on my plate already with classes to keep me distracted. I think with all the excitement on this forum of people getting accepted and wait listed it just made me even more excited and anxious too! I hope I get to meet all of you!
Haha that means i am silly because UCLA was the only school I applied to. I am leaving it all on my lords hand. He knows how hard I have worked for my 3.9 GPA thus I that he will meet me half way.
I am sorry if you found that comment offensive, I didn't mean anything by it. We all know how hard it is to get into this program and the selection process is sometimes surprising. For instance, I have seen stellar candidates get turned away while someone like myself (I truly thought I'd get a flat out rejection) is at the top of the wait list. I'm sure you worked really hard to be where your at, your GPA alone reflects that so it's not that you were "lucky" to get on the wait list. However, I can't say that for myself. I worked really hard to get where I am at as well but given my background, feel incredibly lucky to have this chance. That's all.

This is an educated guess, but here's how I would interpret that information @Luv4God-
Yes, the program has accepted all of it's applicants and all spots are taken. A waitlist has been established to cover back ups, ie: people that pass on their acceptance to the program, people that don't actually meet the requirements and somehow got through, people that don't pay the deposit, etc, etc, etc..
When someone is removed from the 70 accepted list, people from the wait list will be bumped up to "accepted" based on ranking on the waitlist. They will continue to notify waitlisted people for some time. Some people might flat out reject their offer (maybe they were accepted into another program), and some people may sit on their acceptance offer and reject it at a later time, or not be able to attend or whatever. I read somewhere that waitlisters were accepted as late as June last year.
With all of that said, just because UCLA has made their final decisions DOES NOT mean they have informed everyone of that. Of the 70 accepted, letters of acceptance may still be going out and letters of denial may still be going out, and waitlisted letters may still be going out. I would assume if you're high up on the waitlist, they might wait to inform you because you're probably going to be bumped into accepted and they're waiting for some people to officially reject their offers, before notifying waitlisters of acceptance.
You can read into not hearing anything however you want, but if it were me, for my sanity, this is how I would take it: Two people are running the admissions for the undergraduate, MECN, Masters and doctorate nursing programs. I would assume that means they're VERY busy right now. Sure, there might be a reason you haven't heard anything, but it might just be because they're very busy. Give it a week or two, and if you still haven't heard anything- shoot an email that is short and concise that states- "I was wondering if a decision on my application for the MECN program has been made." No need to elaborate any further, the less they have to read, the more helpful the response will be.
Best of luck. Try not to think about it- it's out of your hands now.
