UCLA MECN 2016

Published

Hey there, I am planning on applying to the UCLA MECN 2016 program and was wondering if anyone else out there was applying as well. Just curious about other applicants and hoping to go through this application process with some other people! Would love any feedback. Thanks :)

I want to live in the venice/palms area housing ucla provides, how about you?

UCLA provides housing that far away? Huh. I figured it was just the graduate housing or something. I currently live in Westwood but I actually did like living in Santa Monica better. Quieter and more peaceful. Walking to and from UCLA sure is nice though, and since so many people are walking around all the time (which is good and bad), I can pretty much go jogging at whatever time.

@MsBerry First I received an acceptance letter to my email from the Graduate Division. I received another email from R about the start dates, orientation, tuition, financial aid, etc. yesterday. I haven't checked my status on the portal yet but I will check now and let you know what it says.

Thanks Leo! This was my question, I actually didn't hear from the graduate division but did hear from Rhonda. If you heard from the graduate division, I'd imagine your acceptance is waiting! Congrats!

Do I need a UCLA e-mail for the facebook group? Won't allow me to join the link provided earlier,

I just checked the portal and it directed me to my acceptance letter. @ drizoid Thnx! Your welcome! Once you get your acceptance letter it will direct you to set up a UCLA account. Not sure if you need a UCLA e-mail to sign up for the group. I haven't attempted to join the Facebook group yet but I will. Hang in there, everything will work out!

@leojerz, thanks so much for the clarification! Have you and others who have received the acceptance email from the Graduate Division completed all the prerequisites? I am still missing some, and I wonder if that has anything to do with the delay.

I haven't completed epi but have completed the rest.

@MsBerry No problem! I completed all my prerequisites except Epi which I plan to take in the summer @ UCLA.

Hey guys, I'm sure I'm not the only one that has gone through previous threads but they were taking alternates from the wait list for a looong time. I think the last one they took was as far as June 10th? I also believe they took 17 people.

On last year's thread there was also a mention that they took over 40 students on the wait list I believe in 2012? But they were also accepting many more students for that cohort than they are this year, but it just goes to show that you never know and it's not over till it's over!

Good luck to everyone!

Facebook group??? why do we need a UCLA e-mail to sign up for the group... another prerequisite ??? I guess I won't be joining then... #byefelicia

Lmbo @RxtobeRn27...

You are hilarious! I'm on the waitlist and I pray I get in so we can finally meet! This has been a heck of a thread and I'm glad I joined! There has been so much support here it almost feels like a Facebook group already! Anyways good luck to everyone who has been accepted so far... I know you will all do great in the program!

@Luv4God congrats!

I need some advice and made a separate thread for this but didn't get any responses, so I'm hoping to get some help from you guys here. I got into both UCLA's MECN and APU's ELM programs and need some help deciding.

APU

-RN, BSN & MSN-NP or MSN-CNS

-3-4 years (depending on track)

-$90,000+ tuition

UCLA

-RN & MSN-CNL

-2 years

-$50,000+ tuition

I was unclear about APU's advanced practice MSN vs UCLA's generalist MSN, but I did some research and found out that NPs have some prescriptive authority and provide more direct patient care, whereas CNLs have more of a managerial role coordinating care. UCLA's hospital network and reputation are obvious draws, but I'm wondering what can be said about the CNL certification vs the NP/CNS licensure. Do you guys know what the job prospects are between those types of nurses? Do you plan on getting NP certification after the MECN program? APU's program looks very appealing but attending UCLA does too, so help please!
