UCLA MECN Fall 2014?

Hi- Is anyone applying to UCLA's MECN program for next fall?

I am already stalking my mail man......just in case. I am also checking all the things (forum/mail/email/UCLA site). Even if I don't get in I just want to know! Do you guys have any tips on getting patient care experience?! What types of jobs or volunteer positions are out there, and is one easier to find\get than the other?

I would definitely recommend the Clinical Care Extenders internship program, if you haven't heard about that already. Direct hands-on clinical experience AND if you stick to it for enough rotations you can shadow in the OR. I'm in ICU/CCU right now. :)

I've heard really good things about the CE program. I can speak for ways to get into a hospital though. I come from an EMT background. There are staffing agencies that will hire "sitters" for psych patients, or confused/combative patients that require constant care/monitoring. I started sitting for patients, and then one day an ER tech called out and my patient was discharged, so they moved me to the floor for the rest of the shift. I worked my tail off and got noticed, and eventually got a F/T position. Part of it was dumb luck the other was hard work. Something to consider

I've been following this thread for a while but I only just now made an account. I'm getting so anxious and wanted to voice my anxiety to a sympathetic crowd :) I really hope the decisions are mailed at a similar time as last year. I'm going to be so annoyed if we don't hear until April!

They just recently updated the grad status portal so I think we'll find out soon...

LOL Bruin2010! I was just out there as well and saw that it has been changed to a login page! I am dreading the day we log in and see if we are accepted or not. Or I guess rejected or not....ugh, pit in my stomach!

I didn't even realize there was a grad status portal! Clearly, I haven't done the appropriate research! I was reading the posts from the 2013 cohort, and many of them said they received a mailed letter. Is something posted online? Or do we have to wait to get something by mail?

No one really knows! They might update portal or they might send something in the mail.... We are all just waiting........

I'm under the impression that if I hear from Ucla in the next couple of days it will be a rejection. Trying to be patient
