Hello,
I saw that the MECN application for UCLA has been posted today. Is anyone applying to the Fall 2011 program?? I haven't found a thread going on yet...Maybe we can share our questions/concerns regarding the application process here.
i found the site where it states this...http://www.gdnet.ucla.edu/gasaa/admissions/MTERIALS.HTM
Its on the Requirements for US Applicants and states "Two official copies of your transcripts may be sent directly from the registrars of the academic institutions you have attended (beyond secondary school), or you may request official copies and send them yourself to the academic department to which you are applying."
At the info session they said 2 transcripts from your undergrad school or 1 official and 1pdf file. Looking at my notes I wrote "w/ degree posted" so this may also apply to grad school degrees. Then 1 total from EACH institution at which you completed prereqs. Yay for less paper waste!

I see... I'm really not sure but I would be interested to hear the answer when you find out. I wasn't sure if I could list my health care experience under employment since it was non-paid work. I was just planning on listing it in my CV and personal statement, but if they allow us to put it under employment on the application then that actually makes more sense to me.
the coordinator told me that we should list all employment (regardless of its relation to the health professions).
Are you applying to the MSN program? I just checked their site and it says the application is available Jan 15-Feb 28. Hopefully that is correct...I was also going to apply to Long Beach but the next cohort doesnt begin until ~2013. : (
Sam, Long Beach received funding! They're accepting applications for fall 2011. The website says "On 9-29-10, we received word that funding has be obtained for a Fall 2011 cohort. We will be able to admit 48 students."

WOW!!!! Thank you so much for letting me know! I had no idea! Awesome : )
Hey guys! I'm new to the site and applying for the fall 2011 mecn program as well. I have learned so much from this allnurses, so I'm excited to now be a part of it. I do have one concern as far as the application goes: On the personal statement, it asks us to discuss any educational or social disadvantages. I've read on other nursing forums that UCLA is trying to admit more "socioeconomically disadvantaged" students into its programs, so I'm worried this will hurt my application. Does anyone know anything about this? Any input would be great.
Thanks,
J

Everyone loves the story of "Underdog" who triumphs over adversity. I think you need to broaden your definition of "socially disadvantage." What were your struggles? What gave you the strength and determination to become the success that stands before us today? Be creative! Illustrate to the reader that you are this phoenix raising from the ashes. Show the reader that you are a courageous person who possesses character and fortitude. UCLA is not looking for the run of the mill cookie cutter person. They threw this question at you because they want to see if you're a creative person.
Please don't make your statement sound like a sob story. Don't victimize yourself. Be positive. Show them that you're a hero in your own way. Be positive. Provide example.

Hello! everyone! I'm going to apply this year. My GPA was about 3.4 for last 60 credits, I took GRE too, and the grade was not bad, does it help?
