UCLA MECN Fall 2011

Published

Hello,

I saw that the MECN application for UCLA has been posted today. Is anyone applying to the Fall 2011 program?? I haven't found a thread going on yet...Maybe we can share our questions/concerns regarding the application process here.

psych_nurse---Good to know about the resume. I emailed the coordinator just in case to see if there is a page limit. I will let you know her reply.

About the transcripts-I just know that for another school I sent my transcripts months in advance and they kept it all on file. Also, I have completed my prereqs.

I have pre-reqs in progress but I am unsure of how to list them...

My app is almost ready, my recs are in... I just need to finish up my personal statement!!! I really think it's what's going to make or break my application so I need to make sure it's perfect. I probably won't submit it until next week...

Thank you, Float RN, for your response. I will definitely be fine-tuning my statement over the next few days.

On another note, is there anyone who is submitting or has already submitted a CV? I have a ton of experience in the medical field that I would like to expand upon, using a CV instead of a resume. The only thing is, I do not currently have any publications under my belt, and I've heard CV's are used more for people who already have a master's. I have a good amount of research experience, so I suppose that is a sufficient reason to replace my resume with a CV. But I feel like a CV is a little much, and it may look desperate coming from an applicant who only just recently graduated with a bachelor's.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Good luck to everyone on their applications!

I am hoping to use more of a CV format as well. When I hear back from the coordinator, I will let you know.

Alright, I have received word from the coordinator regarding the resume. She said "You should try to limit it to 2 pages if possible. There is not a strict limit, but 2 pages is recommended."

hope this helps some of you : )

Thank you so much for letting us know! I have a little over 3 pages, so I will need to do some editing. Good luck! :)

J

you are welcome. I have had to do some editing on mine as well to shorten it : )

I am new to the thread. It's great to have this resource. I am also applying to UCLA. My application is nearly completed. My references are in and just doing some last minute edits to my personal statement. I am quite nervous. I did my undergrad at UCLA but my gpa is low. I have, however, done extremely well in all my pre-reqs. I haven't applied to any other schools but because of my familly I am really geographically restricted. Any suggestions on other programs that are just as competitive and rewarding?

Haha, just to make sure I do this correctly....the goal statement is uploaded to the section "Personal Statement" not the "Supporting Docs" section, right?

djdada- for schools in southern california offering MSNs, I am also applying to CSUF, CSULA, and CSULB. I think they are all pretty competitive programs. Im not sure what other MSN programs are offered in your area...

Sam,

I'm pretty sure that's correct, at least that's where I'm putting it. :)

As far as LOR's go, what if a recommender is taking a long time to respond to UCLA's email, and does not submit the LOR until after Nov 1st? Does that one person have the power to void the entire application due to a tardy letter? I am hoping I will be able to remedy this issue before Monday, but I'm getting worried.

djdada- you can also look into ABSN programs like those offered through CSUSM and MSMC. I don't think they are quite as competitive, but they are a good second option if UCLA doesn't work out, and MSMC's program only takes one year to complete. Although they only offer a second bachelor's, this may give you more options for master's programs once you're done.

jean- okay thanks : ) . Also, Im pretty sure that the LORs have to be submitted by Nov 1st. I dont know if the application system will accept the letter if its submitted after. Im still waiting on one recommender as well...: ( Im in the same boat- a tad worried as well.

jean7,

have you tried using the "reminder option" on the recommendation page of the application? one of my professors had still not submitted the letter so i sent a reminder through the website and he completed it right away!
