UCLA MECN Fall 2011

Published

Hello,

I saw that the MECN application for UCLA has been posted today. Is anyone applying to the Fall 2011 program?? I haven't found a thread going on yet...Maybe we can share our questions/concerns regarding the application process here.

i applied to UCSF, and will also be applying to University of Hawaii, SFSU, CSULA, CSUF, and USF. you?

CSUN, MSMC, CSUF & Concordia University. Was going to apply to CSULB but they're not accepting for 2011 b/c of budget cuts.

I'm going to an info session for CSUF next Monday but you might know the answer to this. Did they change the SON app date? I thought it was due by late February but then I just read something on their new website that says it's due late November - know anything?

Are you applying to the MSN program? I just checked their site and it says the application is available Jan 15-Feb 28. Hopefully that is correct...

I was also going to apply to Long Beach but the next cohort doesnt begin until ~2013. : (

you're right; it does say that now... i swear like 30 min ago i went on their new beta website and got a whole different page. maybe since they are constantly working on it there was a glitch and i got sent to a different page or something. strange... well thanks for clarifying.

has anyone talked to the coordinator regarding the academic history section of the application? are we really not supposed to list community college work - i'm assuming many of us took pre-reqs at a cc. the following section allows you to upload unofficial copies of your transcripts (in addition to sending the official ones). but the unofficial uploads are supposed to correspond with the institutions you listed on the previous page. i can email the coordinator if i have to but i thought i would check here first since i'm sure she's receiving hundreds of emails.

Psych to nurse- I did not take CC courses, but I am assuming the online application only wants to know the institution where your undergraduate degree was actually awarded. I would just send the official transcripts from your CC work along with the 2 transcripts they would like mailed. You may just send an email anyways to double check.

I have a question about the "professional experience" section. This may be a silly one, but, is it correct that we are to only list work experience that is directly related to nursing/health professions?

Sam198, when you say two copies, do you mean two copies of every transcript? I only saw one address listed on the site. Can you clarify?

strange...on the website it used to state that two copies of each transcript were needed to be sent to the office. maybe they changed this?

i found the site where it states this...

http://www.gdnet.ucla.edu/gasaa/admissions/MTERIALS.HTM

Its on the Requirements for US Applicants and states "Two official copies of your transcripts may be sent directly from the registrars of the academic institutions you have attended (beyond secondary school), or you may request official copies and send them yourself to the academic department to which you are applying."

I was actually under the impression that we are to list all employment, regardless of the field, but I may be wrong. Have you checked with the coordinator?

I have not- I will email them soon, just thought I would check here first. I wasnt sure if we were to list "health related work" on the application and then include all other employment on the CV.

I see... I'm really not sure but I would be interested to hear the answer when you find out. I wasn't sure if I could list my health care experience under employment since it was non-paid work. I was just planning on listing it in my CV and personal statement, but if they allow us to put it under employment on the application then that actually makes more sense to me.
