Hello!
The application window starts January 1st, which is a couple weeks away from now. I am excited to apply though and see what happens. Who else is planning to apply here?
I am planning on applying to both the accelerated and traditional pathways.
I know a competitive gpa she said is a 3.5-3.7 when I sent an email but, but usf said their average accepted gpa is 3.6 for accelerated and 3.8 for upper division. Advisors don't say what the average prereq gpa was. People who I've talked to who got accepted with a lower Teas score had a 4.0 prereq gpa. remember they look at your science prereq and non science seperately. Also a factor is if you've retaken the class, because the school looks at your first attempted grade. Advisors hugely underestimate their average gpa, for example when my friend applied to a speech therapy masters program at UCF she was told a 3.5 was a great gpa and that it was competitive. The average gpa accepted was a 3.7-3.8. My friend had a decent gpa and a 86 teas score and was rejected, but she retook some classes which may have effected her outcome.
I applied fo USF but what's great is that they accept for both summer and fall.
Sorry I applied through my phone and wanted to add some things because it isn't really coherent.
I emailed UCF about their admissions, they replied: "*Basic and Accelerated are very competitive tracks. Competitve TEAS would be 85% to 87% with an overall GPA of 3.5 to 3.7, it may change based on the applicant pool for that period.".
What I am saying is that in the past, advisors who claim you have a "A "competitive score" may or not be correct. I have heard advisors for other programs tell applicants that their scores are competitive, but at the end the average was higher. Again it depends on the applicant pool, and we won't really know how it is until decisions are made. The average's for the concurrent/or Spring semester at Cocoa are going to be lower than a UCF fall/summer admission. There's no way in really knowing if you're competitive or not, because we each have an area on our application that isn't perfect. I have talked to current students who were rejected with mid-80's Teas scores with decent GPAs, while some with lower-80's Teas scores with perfect pre-req GPA. We each know that our pre-req (especially science gpa) is incredibly important. All I can suggest (and what I've been told) is to apply to more-than-one nursing program and have a back up plan.
At USF they each have 300 applicants for each program cycle (regular and accelerated), this is a total of 600 applicants for the 2 cycles combined. 48-60 students are selected for the upper division and 36-48 students are selected for the accelerated. In the summer term they admit less students, but in the fall there are more applicants. I was looking at UNF and while they had 500 total applicants, only 275 were eligible for review. We can assume that other schools may have similar applicant numbers.
Hey guys! Just wanted to drop by and offer some encouragement. I was in your shoes this time last year, applying for the Basic program. Except we had interviews, first and last group for that I guess haha. It's a rough wait and I remember all of the feelings I had. I was frequenting an all nurses thread as well at the time (: Just let me know if you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them. I know it's probably gonna be a different timeline because no interviews, but I got the invitation to interview march 29th and my official acceptance april 18th. They actually sent out the final acceptances at 11 at night, when we least expected it! It'll be worth it, the feeling of getting that acceptance was absolutely amazing. You'll have so much fun in the program, even though it's hard. I feel like everyone would always focus so much on how hard it was when they were giving me advice and that was a little intimidating, but it's seriously fun. I've made the greatest friends and done so many awesome things so far so look forward to that! Hard work, but doable and so rewarding! Cheers to the weeks of inbox refreshing, I hope to meet some of you in the program!
Msfrance,
Could you tell us what your experience was for the first two semesters? I hear the first semester is not too bad, a lot of busy work but the second semester is pretty tough. Could you elaborate on that? Also, do you have any advice for incoming students? What is the hardest thing you have had to do in Nursing school so far? Are the books crazy expensive? How soon till you start clinicals from when you enter Nursing school? Thanks in advance!
Hey guys I am in class with MsFrance as well :) I would like to give you my input as well... First semester was tough because it was a lot of getting used too... The course material isn't too bad it was just learning how to organize. It was very important to keep on top if your things!!! So far we are in the middle of our second semester, in my opinion, a lot of the other students scared us half to death of this semester but I honestly do not think it is as bad as many have said. No labs neither which I love! Clinicals are sooo fun second semester! It is just a lot of studying but close to no busy work, basically we have homework I just one class so that's good too. But you begin clinicals the first week of first semester I believe it was? If not the second week. You begin with community clinical for half the semester then you have long term care. Second semester you have hospital clinicals! Half the semester is for your OB (maternal infant) rotation and Peds. The other half is for Adult 1. I have so far done t OB peds clinical and it was totally amazing! Books.. Ha yes books are expensive! First semester is most expensive
My advice to incoming students is to be prepared...relax because it is totally do-able...don't get too intimidated (I know it's hard not too) and have fun!!!! :) also to try and get as much as sleep and fun time out of your system before nursing school begins because when people say you have no life... You literally have no life. You will eat sleep breath nursing school. But you will learn to accept & love it :)

Congrats kmcnally on your 93. Another thing I don't like about the TEAS is that they have survey questions. How are you suppose to know if they count them towards your score? What if you get the survey questions right, but miss an actual test question. Do they replace them or no?
And missind33 I'm applying to USF too. They also have a good program and don't require the TEAS test. they base it off of 30%GPA 30%Pre-req and 40%Essay
