Does anybody know anything about exactly how compettive UCF's bsn program is to get into??
I am currently at a community college and i have been accepted into the RN program there and was planning to complete my BSN with ucf...But i was looking online at the catalog, and im only 3 classes shy of being able to apply to go directly into the BSN program ...anybody know anything about it? average GPA maybe?
I'm concerned. I applied for the 2011 start, yet I don't have orientation nor immunization holds or to dos. Is this because I was a former student?HELP!
:uhoh3:
If you are a readmit (former student) then there is no orientation and you already have your immunizations. There is no need to worry.
Overall GPA is important; however, prereq GPA is critical. My overall GPA is 3.3 from my previous major. My prereq GPA is 4.0. I applied for the Accelerated class of 2010 which had over 300 applicants for 60 seats. Yes, I got in.I heard that extracurricular activities can have a small influence, especially in such a crowded field. The ratios for the basic program are along the lines of 700-800 applicants for 120 spaces.
The numbers aren't as bad as they look. Figure that some applicants will apply at several different schools. Also some applicants won't meet the minimum application standards and are no threat. Finally, not all of those that UCF selects will accept as several candidates will choose other schools/move/go broke/whatever. After all this is factored in then your chances are somewhat improved.
Final consideration is looking at the market where you'll be applying for work. Here in Central Florida BSNs are getting considerable preference over Associates candidates. If you're anywhere above minimum - especially if you've done well with your prereqs - send in your application. You miss 100% of the shots that you don't take.
... and this is the advice that I took to heart, and one that everyone should as well.
UPDATE: I got in to the 2011 Accelerated BSN!
Overall GPA is 3.4, prereq GPA is 3.7, science prereq GPA is 4.0, TEAS is a 90. I personally thought I had a slim to none chance of getting in, because I kept hearing strict admission cutoffs of 3.6 and above on the overall GPA. In fact, I did sit with a professor there about 2 years ago who said the accelerated was very competitive (avg GPA of last entering class at the time = 3.7) and based on the GPA of my 1st bachelors (@ 3.2) I had a slim chance. Well, I guess I beat the odds, or rather - I improved on them.
As TheLastTime says: You miss 100% of the shots that you don't take. I would have missed this one if I did not take the chance.
Hi everyone! I am a current UCF student and I applied for Fall 2011 Nursing at the main campus. I have a 3.77 prerequisite GPA, and 3.56 overall GPA with a 81.2 on the TEAS. I don't feel very confident about getting in because of my test score specifically, but I hope I have a chance. I heard we will find out around April 1st, which is really coming up soon! Good luck to everyone!:)
Hey everybody! I also applied for Fall 2011 UCF Nursing bsn program. I have a 3.5 gpa and an 84 TEAS score. Staying positive and applying to multiple schools is imperative, especially if your scores look anything like mine lol. I've been accepted by FGCU nursing so far....waiting to hear from UCF.
my application status....
Applied to 7 schools. 1 rejection. 1 acceptance.

Thanks, I'll go ahead and give them a call just to make sure.
I appreciate your response. I'm constantly on edge--afraid I might miss something that will void my application.
