Does anybody know anything about exactly how compettive UCF's bsn program is to get into??

I am currently at a community college and i have been accepted into the RN program there and was planning to complete my BSN with ucf...But i was looking online at the catalog, and im only 3 classes shy of being able to apply to go directly into the BSN program ...anybody know anything about it? average GPA maybe?

I am currently applying to transfer back to UCF from an out of state school. I submitted my application for the 2011 Accelerated program but I am concerned about whether my out of state prereqs will transfer. Did anyone have to submit APG forms and if so, what was the result? Also, I have a 3.57 overall GPA, a 4.0 prereq GPA and a 94.1 on the TEAS but since I haven't been in the area to attend an information session I was wondering about the averages and if I should be hopeful or not. Does anyone know how much weight they give to each of these?

I submitted my APG Petition form a while back for half of the 8 prereqs, which I completed out of state during my first bachelors. The rest of my prereqs were completed in FL (not @ UCF) and did not require APG. All my out of state courses were accepted for transfer. You need to complete the APG form they provide on their website, plus submit course descriptions of the courses you wish to transfer (catalog photocopies or printed from website), and official transcripts from the out of state school(s) with the final grades for these courses. Instructions are on that APG form. You need to do this ASAP, especially since UCF is reviewing applications as we speak. Not sure however if not having done an APG will affect decision on an application, call the nursing school for a straight answer on that.

Based on what I heard at an information session, your GPA and TEAS scores are very competitive for the program. They said something like > 3.4 overall GPA and > 90% TEAS reflects the most competitive applicant. That's not to say that they are automatic cutoffs.

Okay, reading this just makes me want to cry :-( I'll graduate with an AA from Valencia at the end of the spring semester. I am taking 2 nursing pre-reqs at another school, but don't need them to graduate.

Anyway, I had hoped to start UCF in the fall (accepted), spend a semester finishing pre-reqs, then apply to the nursing program. I'm an older student (46), and while I've gotten a 4.0 on this second go at college, I totally blew it when I was 18, so the GPA I'm looking at as a result is 3.4.

Valencia told me they have a minimum 2 year wait for their nursing program, so I should have assumed UCF would be as impossible to get into, but I have to say the closer I get, the more the reality is starting to stress me out :-(

Read my earlier post in this thread. My scenario in 2009 was similar to yours - right down to the age.

I applied to UCF Accelerated prgram as well. I have a 3.7 overall, a 4.0 science pre-req and a 3.8 non science pre-req ( I got a B+ in stats when I took it 8 years ago). I got a 86.5 on the TEAS. I was feeling really positive, but I have been completely stressing out the past few weeks. I'm in the process of applying to Seminole State / UCF concurrent program for a backup. I've scanned the boards from the 2010 Accelerated class and it looks like some people got in with GPAs as low as 3.2 and TEAS as low as 80, so I hope this year is similar. March 1st can't come soon enough. Good luck everyone :)

Does anyone know if we can apply to BOTH the traditional and accelerated BSN programs? I am awaiting word about the accelerated program but am on the fence about applying to the traditional. Would like to know since the Feb 15 deadline is looming. Thanks!

Yes you can apply to both but if you get accepted into the accelerated, they expect you to do that.

I'm considering applying to both as well, but I heard the traditional was more competitive to get into than the accelerated; although I would think the accelerated would be more difficult.

I also remember hearing that the traditional program is considered more competitive than the accelerated. Just from reading the boards here, it seems like a lot of people who apply for the traditional program have a GPA in the 3.9-4.0 range. Of course not everyone who applies comes to these boards, so it is really hard to tell the true average. I think I am leaning towards applying to the traditional too, just in case.

So I keep getting emails about attending orientation, and myUCF shows I have 2 holds: one for orientation and one for health services. I am more than happy to comply with clearing both of these holds, but shouldn't I just wait until I know for sure whether or not I am accepted to the nursing program and I decide that I am attending? I feel it would be all for naught if I don't get in.

i went ahead and submitted my health form and signed up for orientation, mostly because there are only two orientation dates available before the start of the accelerated program. the first date is march 25th, and the second date is may 13th, which is the friday before the accelerated program starts. i didn't want the 25th date to fill up and have to wait until the last minute if i get accepted. i already had all of my immunizations completed, so getting the health form filled out and verified wasn't that much of a hassle. however, you must pay $40 to register for orientation, and the fee is non-refundable, which is obviously a deterrent when not knowing if you will be accepted to the program. there is also a convenience fee for paying online, and your immunization hold must be lifted prior to your orientation date. ucf recommends submitting the immunization form at least 3 weeks ahead of orientation, but i submitted my form last week and it has already posted to my records.

Something to consider. I noticed that March date also. I might just have to go through motions just in case. I would hate to last minute this all. I want to believe doing it all will bring good vibes while I wait for decisions to roll in :D but I can only hope!

I'm concerned. I applied for the 2011 start, yet I don't have orientation nor immunization holds or to dos. Is this because I was a former student?

HELP!

you might want to contact undergraduate admissions to see if those requirements still apply to you. i wouldn't think you would need to attend orientation, and if they haven't changed their immunization requirements, they may not need a new form. on the orientation website, i only see freshman and transfer orientation info, and neither seems they would apply to you. to be honest, i don't think that i had holds show up on my account either. i received documents in the mail about immunizations and orientation, and that is what prompted me to get going on everything.
