  1. Math? Seriously? You don't use Calculus here. You don't use Trigonometry. You don't even use Algebra. If you can add, subtract, multiply, and divide, you're fine. Science, courage, heart, brains, sure. Sense of humor is also quite helpful. Pfft. What profession doesn't? I have been a participant in many, MANY online forums in the past fifteen years. This is one of the absolutely worst pieces of "advice" I have ever read. Other than an example of how misandrist a very select few female nurses can be, there is no useful item that can be gleaned from this. Do your own research. Make your own choices. Careers - and unsupportive partners/spouses - CAN be changed. This comes from a male nurse who has also been there and done that.
  2. There's Florida and there's Miami. Both can be considered different states.
  3. This is actually not new news. This is the direction the NP genre is going. You will be much more competitive with the DNP. As tempting as it may be to go the cheap route with the Master's, the tide is turning towards the Doctorate.
  4. The bigger picture is ethics. Considering that this person is choosing to not disclose an event that will cause them to be absent for months - or possibly permanently if the new mom decides on the stay-at-home track after the child is born - I would wonder what else this person was not disclosing to me. Hiring managers don't hire for style points. They hire because they need feet on the floor.
  5. $21.85 sounds like Orlando Health's starting pay. Florida Hospital offers slightly above $22 for a freshly minted nurse...really not enough difference to be concerned about. Take the offer. If you really need more pay you can work nights and get a healthy differential.
  6. You left out the part about walking 20 miles to work every day in the snow uphill both ways...
  7. The meek may inherit the Earth, but they won't get the job.
  8. 7 out of 55. Unsolicited advice: Don't dip your pen in class - or company - ink.
  9. Welcome to Reality 101 and Networking 202.
  10. A dog carrying a bone walked to a pond and saw another bone in the reflection...
  11. You're going to graduate into an $18 - $22 per hour job. Take that into consideration while budgeting your education.
  12. One sponsor is a Republican, the other is a Democrat. Good to see we'll get a bipartisan screwing if this passes.
  13. There is nothing beyond simple Algebra that is needed. If you can convert units and solve an equation such as 10x = 95 for the variable x, then you can do all of the math required for nursing.
  14. I don't see a problem with this if lifting is a repeated daily requirement of the job. This puts a literal spin on the phrase "carrying their weight". From my experience I do find a need to lift 50+ lbs during my shift. Granted it may be only once or twice a day, but this task is shared by nurses and techs alike on my floor.
