UCF Accelerated BSN 2011-2012

U.S.A. Florida

Anyone else applying? :clown:

Congratulations on the great score PitterPatti! You too Atakes!

I applied to UCF, USF, and Jacksonville U, but like I said in an earlier post I want UCF so badly. I got my first degree from there and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. After hearing these TEAS scores though I'm more nervous than I was. How are everyone's GPAs? I have a 3.9.

From what I heard all that matters is overall gpa, pre-req gpa, science gpa, and TEAS. The guy at the information session said they look for people with scores better than an 84 on the TEAS and that's what the applicant pool from last year centered around. GPA centered around a 3.6 I believe....but don't quote me! :)

I have all A's in my prerequisites. I'm taking nutrition this semester.

I'm not sure how they are going to evaluate my GPA. When I got my degree

(back when dinosaurs roamed the earth), we were on the quarter system

and the GPA was on a 3.0 scale. I had a 2.84/3.00 which I think translates

to about a 3.8/4.0 but I don't know if they will include all my courses in the

calculation.

I took the TEAS twice and got like an 88.7 and a 90.6%, I think. I took it at Seminole and got the lower grade but it was Version 5 and I had not studied it, so I took Version 4 at UCF and got the higher score, but there was some weird earth science questions on there that brought me down. Nothing I studied led me to believe it would be that important on the test. Hehe.

Anyhow, I think my overall was like 3.625 and pre-req 4.0. I wish everybody luck!

Yours,

G.

UCF looks at the overall GPA of all coursework taken as an undergrad, that is what the guy @ the info session emphasized. Not sure to what extent they will look at prereq GPA, perhaps as a tiebreaker between candidates?

I'm so glad you are all on this thread, it's nice to hear from people that are waiting just like me :) Based on my understanding UCF looks at the following in order for the accelerated program 1) overall undergraduate GPA 2) TEAS score 3) 4 science pre-req GPA 4) non science pre-req GPA. I have a 3.7 overall undergradaute, 87 TEAS, 4.0 science pre-req GPA and 3.8 non science pre-req GPA. I looked on the board from last year and it seems as though people with as low as 80 TEAS and 3.2 overall GPA got in but it does depend on the application pool this year. March 1st can't come soon enough.

Thanks for your feedback, mxm! I am glad to see this again. And yes, I recall reading those threads and saying to myself: Hey, these stats are not hard and fast, that person's GPA is lower than mine and they got in ... hmm ... but it's hard to say what happens this year. I am also an applicant to Stony Brook in New York and decisions were released this time last year (I was waitlisted but never got in). This year, we have been told it's not going to be until late Feb. It's enough to drive one to drink! *wine

I am thinking this year's applicant pool is going to be much more competitive than last year's! It makes me so nervous! I have an overall GPA of 3.85, an 87 on the TEAS, and a 4.0 in pre-reqs. According to the nursing advisor I spoke with, the admissions committee also takes into consideration if you completed all eight of the pre-reqs by the deadline as opposed to only seven.

Anyone applying for the fall 2011 regular BSN? Do they just accept the top candidates or is there an interview process that we have to go through.

I have a 4.0GPA (all classes) and scored 88.7% on the TEAS V. Worked hard for this and i hope i get in.

Hi HM2Doc,

Congrats on your GPA and TEAS score. No, they do not require an interview. Admissions looks at your overall GPA, prerequisite GPA, and TEAS score. With your high GPA, your chances seem excellent. So far, I have only applied to the accelerated program, but I might apply to the traditional as well. I called the nursing dept., and they said it would be fine to apply to both, but I am nervous it would somehow mess up my accelerated application. I don't really want to give myself something else to worry about.

Has the deadline passed for the traditional?

No, the deadline for the traditional is not until Feb. 15th.

I emailed UCF today and was told that the decision date for admission to the ABSN is March 15. Earlier I saw a post indicating that it was going to be March 1. Looks like things got pushed back a couple of weeks!
