To marycnew: You should apply to the Fall 2011 USF accelerated class. If we both get in, you won't be the oldest! :)

UNF Summer 2011 Accelerated BSN Hopeful
For those of you who didn't get into UNF due to "weak" interviews - I feel your pain. I purposely did not apply to UNF because of the emphasis that was placed on the interview. As someone who has no problem speaking their mind in normal working situations but who does not do well when asked interview type questions, I knew I would have no chance to get into their program. After reading your posts, I pondered how I would answer the integrity question and drew a complete blank. In my former career as a computer programmer, it simply didn't come up. Other than perhaps witnessing people occasionally take a longer lunch break or a bit of office politics, I would have had nothing to say. If I had more time to think about it, such as in a written response, I would have said that integrity is not something that just comes into play in critical moments but is an integral part of your character, like honesty, that is exemplified by how you lead your life every day.

I got in as well.

FAU Accelerated BSN 2011
If I don't get into USF this year, my plan is to take the red cross nursing assistant course, volunteer for a year, and then try again. My grades are good so if I can pull off a grammatically correct, if boring, writing sample, maybe I will have a shot. :)

FAU Accelerated BSN 2011
To all the wait listed ones, there will be at least one spot opening up. I got in but will not be able to attend. I have also applied to UCF and feel good about my chances there as well. But I won't be able to go there either. When I applied, my husband was considering two jobs, one that allowed him to live pretty much anywhere and the other in Tampa. He ended up with the Tampa job, which is great because it was the better job of the two, but unfortunately it limits me to just USF. I will be applying to their Fall 2011 accelerated program. The good news is that it is my first choice program but the bad news is that I do not feel good about my chances. They require a resume of prior experience and a writing sample. I don't have any experience and my creative writing ability is nonexistent. My strengths are my grades and my standardized test scores. UGH, I wish I could trade someone my HESI/TEAS scores for an inspiring writing sample!

How can I become a CNA
kfarmer - Did you ever find a CNA training program in your area? I am also looking for something in the Tampa Bay area. Thanks.

UCF Accelerated BSN 2011-2012
I have all A's in my prerequisites. I'm taking nutrition this semester. I'm not sure how they are going to evaluate my GPA. When I got my degree (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth), we were on the quarter system and the GPA was on a 3.0 scale. I had a 2.84/3.00 which I think translates to about a 3.8/4.0 but I don't know if they will include all my courses in the calculation.

UCF Accelerated BSN 2011-2012
I thought I had done pretty well on the TEAS but hearing about a 100% and 96% makes me nervous. My score was 92.9%, I hope that is OK. The science score really drug me down but I did get 100% in math! I am probably the oldest applicant to the program (48). I was a computer programmer and then a stay at home mom. Paco69, do you have a law degree? That's a big switch as well! I will be applying to USF also as it is the most convenient geographically but it looks like they place a lot of emphasis on prior health care related experience and I don't have any. Is anyone else applying to USF too?

FAU Accelerated BSN 2011
FGCU has just announced an ABSN program. They don't have all the details up yet but they are taking applications starting May 2011 for Spring 2012 admission.

Thanks for the response. I wonder if I have a shot at all with my resume or lack thereof...

Does anyone know how much emphasis USF places on the writing sample and/or resume? I have a high GPA (graduated summa) , all 'A's in my prerequisites, and I do very well on standardized tests (99 percentile on TEAS). I feel pretty confident about my chances of getting into programs that are a straight "numbers game" (like UCF) but much less so when it's subjective. While I can write fairly well from a grammar standpoint, I am not "creative" at all. Also, my background is in computer science (former programmer) and then over 10+ years of being a stay at home mom. I really have no health care or even volunteer experience. Although I am applying to the ABSN programs at UCF and USF, going to UCF is a long shot financially and logistically. I really need to be in the Tampa area.
