UCF Accelerated BSN 2011-2012

U.S.A. Florida

Anyone else applying? :clown:

I applied to the accelerated program at UCF as well. Anyone else out there apply? Does anyone know the minimum GPA (overall and prereq) and TEAS to be competitive? I really hope I get in. I also am applying to the Seminole State / UCF concurrent program as a backup.

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

At the information session I attended, we were told that one has to have at least a 3.4 overall GPA to be a competitive applicant (that's all undergrad courses, not just prereqs as prereq GPA does not appear to be that important at UCF unless perhaps one is on the cusp of a 3.4). As for the TEAS, an overall score of 80% or more is required, but to be competitive they recommended 90% or more.

Clearly, UCF is a VERY competitive school.

I just applied to both UNF and UCF. I graduated with my undergrad from UCF, so I'm pretty familiar with the school. I am also planning to apply to UF and USF, just in case either of those don't work out, as well as Remington for July admission as an absolute last resort. I did really well on the TEAS, but I'm not looking forward to taking the GRE for UF. I guess off to the bookstore I go to get more study guides.

I am keeping my fingers crossed! Good luck to everyone :)

Good luck to you too! Wow, you really got your applications in right under the wire :) I would have applied to UF as well had it not been for the fact that they wanted Dev Psych and Stats within 7 years (all others prereqs I completed within the last year). No one else required those 2 courses to be that recent (mine are like 20 years old ) and I was not about to retake those classes for just one school. Plus I was not too keen on taking the GRE either :p ... would have been nice to be a Gator Nurse tho :D

Yeah, I was so nervous about the TEAS that I just took it today. I'm glad I waited because I aced it, but at least I got my applications in on time. I just took Dev Psych last summer and I took stats in 05, so I'm good on those. I can understand not wanting to retake them...that's kind of the reason why I took so long to take the TEAS. I didn't want to be one of those people taking it over and over to get a better score. The GRE scares me, but I figure I will be applying to grad school in less than 5 years so it will be worth taking anyway. As for UF itself, the only part that really saddens me is that I would be away from husband most of the time, but I think that we can make it work.

So does anyone know when we can expect to hear about decisions?

Sometime in March I think. I already can't wait...

PitterPatti, if you don't mind me asking how did you score on the TEAS? In my information session, the guy said somebody got a 100 I couldn't believe it.

This does not surprise me. Pretty soon everyone who applies to nursing school will have 4.0 GPAs and 100% scores on the TEAS. They are going to start to have interviews or require recommendation letters at that point!

It was not me that earned the 100%, but I did get a 96%. I was shocked to get it honestly. As for when we hear, it's usually around UCF spring break when decisions come out, which is the first full week in March. At least it was for the past few years from reading on here.

Edit: I just read on the website that: The College of Nursing will make its candidate decisions and email a letter to all applicants by:

  • Summer Accelerated 2nd Degree BSN Admission (Orlando): March 1

I thought I had done pretty well on the TEAS but hearing about a 100% and 96% makes me nervous. My score was 92.9%, I hope that is OK. The science score really drug me down but I did get 100% in math!

I am probably the oldest applicant to the program (48).

I was a computer programmer and then a stay at home mom.

Paco69, do you have a law degree? That's a big switch as well! I will be applying to USF also as it is the most convenient geographically but it looks like they place a lot of emphasis on prior health care related experience and I don't have any. Is anyone else applying to USF too?

I am also applying to USF, and I do not have any healthcare experience either. I am not really counting on acceptance from USF, but I figure it is worth a shot just in case. I also applied to FAU, and I should hear from them and UCF prior to the deadline for USF, so I may wait until I have their decisions prior to finishing my application.

We plan on buying a house in the Orlando area, as we have wanted to move to the area for awhile, so UCF would be ideal. However, if I am not accepted, it won't be the end of the world, and I will hopefully be accepted somewhere else.

My previous degree is in legal studies, and I had considered applying to law school, but I decided against it. I really enjoyed studying the law, but I have learned from my pre-reqs that I also enjoy studying science as well.

Yes I do! Not so bad a switch considering I have been working in a non-legal management job for the last several years (one I took while I figured out what exactly I should be doing with my life, and I finally figured it out almost 2 years ago). Although I would love to attend UCF, I realize it's extremely competitive and as with 78taylor99 it won't be the end of the world if I don't get in. I also have other choices and have plans B and C in place so I don't feel that dreaded What Am I Going To Do feeling. I won't give up until I get that RN license!
