UC HEALTH NURSE RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Published

Hey all,

This is my first post. I am 8 weeks away from graduating with my BSN and am about to apply to nurse residency programs. I am thinking about moving to Colorado with my family, but my wife is concerned about the increased cost of living. That said, has anyone gone through the UC Health Nurse Residency program and if so, what was the pay? Also, is there a better program in Colorado? I am looking to relocate to Fort Collins or Denver. Thank you in advance for any and all help!

Thanks for the input!

Oh, wow. We almost moved there a couple years ago. Lovelace?

Christus St Vincent. Presbyterian is setting up shop, but will take a year or two before they are financially stable with their new facility to actually be competition. Santa Fe is a great place to live and be a nurse with experience. There are other opportunities. My friend got a job at a clinic after graduation and she is making $50,000 without experience.

My classmates are in the new grad at both in Fort Collins and Loveland. I will apply to Colorado Springs and maybe Denver for this summer. The pay is $26/hr. $5/hr night differential and $2 or $3/hr for weekend differential

I’m currently a new grad at UCHealth! Both north (foco) and metro Denver pay new grads a base rate of $25/hr, I get several differentials though so I’m making about $30/hr average with working nights. Also after the first 6 months you receive a $2/hr raise. Colorado is expensive though, cost of living in both foco and Denver are very high. Not the best place to move if your looking to save. But it’s a great place to live! And a good new grad program/very good hospitals to work in.

I'm really sad to hear that. I was considering Christus for their residency program. I'm willing to work for crappy pay my first year, but at ~16/H, I couldn't even afford Santa Fe rent!

Sehnsucht,

I realized later that I misspoke about the pay. It turns out that their initial pay is $29 an hour without any differentials. Many of those I graduated with in May have taken up work with Christus and feel supported and content with not only the environment, but also the their residency program. I should have posted my findings. I think if you feel that you should move to Santa Fe, Christus would be a great place to start. I guess I should also add that I have found work in Fort Collins, CO since my initial post and found my first job, which includes a residency program, by applying for a job that required experience, of which I had none. I am week two into it and the healthcare organization is delivering on all their promises.

OMG! Juhn! That's great! I'm so happy to hear that! I was feeling a little down, and frustrated with not finding many residency posts on Indeed, but you've given me some hope. I'm going to do what you did and just go ahead and apply to RN jobs. I'm so happy for you! Good job persevering!

You got this! I was down too and my wife was beginning to think that my education was a complete waste of time, which didn't help. Someone here on allnurses said a simple thing that changed everything: You don't get 100% of the jobs you don't apply for.

I was recently in Ft. Collins to scope out CSU for my daughter. We absolutely LOVED the town. However, housing is incredibly expensive. Food and grocery seemed normal cost.

I did get it! I got my formal offer yesterday! Thanks for the pep talk and info!

So glad to hear it!

I am nearing the end of my orientation period and have switched to night shifts, which takes some adjustment, but the staff in the Banner Healthcare system have been nothing short of awesome! Great luck in your future!
