Hey all,
This is my first post. I am 8 weeks away from graduating with my BSN and am about to apply to nurse residency programs. I am thinking about moving to Colorado with my family, but my wife is concerned about the increased cost of living. That said, has anyone gone through the UC Health Nurse Residency program and if so, what was the pay? Also, is there a better program in Colorado? I am looking to relocate to Fort Collins or Denver. Thank you in advance for any and all help!

Did not go through their residency program (was hired by UCH as an experienced nurse) but know of several nurses who did. UCH is a great program, and a great hospital. I would do your homework VERY carefully about cost of living vs. wages, though. Wages are stagnant and COL is just getting higher, the more people relocate there. Housing prices are outrageous.
Klone,
Thanks for the response. The residency program in my area offers $30,000. Would you say that is pretty comparable to UCH or other residency programs?
What do you mean, offers $30,000?
The pay for the first year is $30,000 as a nurse resident, which includes orientation, preceptorship, education, and seminars before residents are assigned patients on their own.
I would guess that the hourly wage at UCH for a new grad nurse is around $26-28/hour.
I don't know what your area is, so keep in mind the wage differential may be significant if you live in a low COL area.
As the hospital in the town I live in pretty much has a monopoly, I think that is why they think they can get away with cheap labor from nurse residents. I was surprised when they told my cohort that number.
$30,000 is an odd way of phrasing the wages for a floor nurse. Is this per year, or for a period of several months, or...? What is the hourly pay?
This is for the first year. I think they don't through out an hourly rate because the number would be so ridiculously low that all the students would have stopped listening to the pitch.
Assuming full-time, that's $16/hour. Where on earth do you live?
Santa Fe, NM or like many of us call it Fanta Se (Fantasy). Again, monopoly hospital been the only game in town for a long time and they know it.
