I got my letter!!! I rarely post b/c I have tried to remain somewhat detached as I completed my prereqs. I know how competetive the program is and was fully prepared to not get the big envelope...HOWEVER...I DID! I am starting the accelerated program in June and am so stinking thrilled! I am going to be a nurse!!!
So has anyone else reading these boards gotten in? I know that the last couple of app cycles have had a lot of ppl posting on here but this round has been pretty quiet. I would love to hear from more of you...start a FB page, share in the excitement....I am all a fluster!
And if there are any CU students or grads who would be willing, will you post of msg me about what the first semester is like? I am eager to learn what I am facing :)
Good luck to everyone still waiting!
CONGRATULATIONS DenverHopeful and Lindsey14 and to all those accepted for June 2011 classes. I am so excited for you all!! So you all know that someone like me was going to come post some questions for you all, so here I am! LOL.
So currently I have an overall gpa of 3.8 and so far I have a 4.0 in my science courses (I have only taken BIO 201) I am currently taken Mat 135 and BIO 202&204. I am going to apply next month, April 1st for the next round of classes (in 2012) and right now I am beyond freaking out because I want to be accepted soooo bad, but am not sure of how to make my application stand out. I am really worried about three W's in A&P and one in MAT 135 sticking out like a sore thumb on my transcript. I became very sick during a semester, had to be hospitalized, and missed so much that my only option was to withdraw or take a very low D (yikes!) The following semester I was so optimistic, I took A&P again with MAT 135 only to have health complications again. Looking back I should have taken a break during that semester to recooperate but whats done is done. In your opinion, do you think that will hinder my chances of getting in? Are there ways I can make my app stand out to outshine the W's? I currently have no volunteer hours but I can this week if need be...I can go on and on, but please let me know what you guys thin/suggest I should do.
Thank you so very much and congratulations again!
Hi Ms. Dre... thank you!!
Okay for me, I don't know how they would look at the W's. I imagine that it happens a lot and if you are retaking them and get As, that is the best you can do and I would not worry beyond that, it helps nothing. You have great GPAs so keep that up and next just really focus on that essay. I took a lot of time on my essay. I would write it and come back to it later and tweak it. I read it aloud a lot to make sure it sounded the way I thought it did in my head. I spent time making sure my grammar was perfect and I made it concise. I tried to make every sentence meaningful with no fluff. One page for 3 points is tough! I started out with 2 pages and over time, whittled it down to less than 1 (I could have fit a few more lines by the time I was finished), but it was more meaningful at the end than it was at 2 pages.
As you answer the ?s think about what traits help a nurse to excel at her profession and talk about how you have learned those traits in your life. Use examples.
This is just my opinion and I wish you luck as you complete your prereqs and get ready to apply!!
There will be another spot opening up for someone on the waitlist because I'm going to decline my addmission to the accelerated program. I'm sad because I know it would be awesome however, I live in Oregon. I applied to 2 schools here in Oregon and 1 in Colorado to up my chances. I was only going to move if Colorado was my only option, luckily I received an acceptance letter from a school here. I own a home and have a 4 year old so it would have been tough to up-root our lives, but I was willing to do it if necessary, I know it would have been a great adventure :) good luck to all of you at UC Denver!
Hello all,
I was looking into applying to CU Denvers Accelerated BSN program. I know it is competitive, but just how competitive is it?? What do they look for besides good grades?? I would appreciate any insight you could give me and congrats on getting accepted.
Hi DenverHopeful,
I have another question for you...again! lol. I am writing my essay for admission now, and I am a bit stuck. My question is what do you think they are looking for in the essay? I have read a lot of previous postings saying how diverstiy is key. Is that so? I am just wreaking my brains over this because I really want it to shine you know? So again, any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you
