UC Davis MEPN 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone!

I'm starting this new thread for those interested in applying to UC Davis's Master's Entry Program Summer 2021 program. Hoping this will be a space where we all can ask questions/connect.

Hope you are all staying healthy!

I just received the application invite ? !

Does anyone know if they’re conducting interviews? It doesn’t say in the email ?

I received a secondary application invite as well!

And from what I remember reading, UCD doesn't perform interviews (someone correct me if I'm wrong). ?

You’re right, they don’t! ? good luck everyone and hang in there those who didn’t get in!!

Hi guys! I received secondary application invite yesterday as well. On to preparing for it now. Good luck! ?

Hey guys! Congrats and good luck to everyone who received a secondary application invite! In the instructions for the prompts, it says that we should list a faculty we'd like to work with. Anyone doing this part or know how we should do this?

Also, did anyone else notice that UCD's tuition is extremely expensive compared to other public schools? It's basically on par with private schools like USF's 2 year or SMU's ELMSN 2 year program or UCSF's 3 year program.

So when they say something is highly recommended, is that a hint that it is necessary? I took Intro to Chemistry way back, I passed with a C and would like to not revisit the class. I am currently retaking A&P and Micro. I sent in transcripts and they said that Intro was acceptable, but they strongly recommend General Chemistry. Should I retake General next semester and apply for entry in 2022?

Also, I did verify they you must have all three communications covered including: group(Interpersonal communication or something comp), written (English 101 works fine), and verbal (Public Speaking or something comp).

Just FYI I already have a Masters Degree in another field. Anyone going back to school in a career change?

Also, anyone know of anyone doing this program with a newborn? Family planning questions.

Hey Calista!

I was in the same boat with chem but I actually opted to retake it over the Summer and actually got an A in it. It was not as dreadful as I remembered it 10 years ago.. maybe you'll find it to be the same.

I have an MBA so this is definitely a career change for me!

Thanks,  I’m taking A&P2 now so Chemistry will be next!  I hope my experience and recent publication will help but I think your right, it’s probably best to re take it so there won’t be any questions on if I personally put out my best application.   Did you retake it locally?

I wrote mainly about my experiences but I can help read it if you send it to my email ?

I would love to see your statement and read about your experience.

I have bachelor in Criminal Justice and Sociology GPA 3.79, Masters of Science in Social Work 3.9 and am licensed to diagnosis and treat mental heath.  I’ve worked in health care in every setting you could imagine for 10 years and was recently selected for publication in a medical journal.   Why nursing now? My degree and license only goes so far,  with an MSN, I can treat my patients from a different specialty lens.  I believe we can transform healthcare into whole person care where we can really impact whole communities and create for change for our patients.

Is the tuition different then on the website?  It says it’s about $14,000 annually for California Residents.

I plan on talking about what faculty I would like to work with! Especially because I want to do research as a nurse.

Whoa, that's a huge difference from what I saw! I see $112K?

Hey dc_rene!

Are you planning to reach out to the faculty or just look them up online and go based on that?

Thank you for sending the link, I was looking at this: https://budget.ucdavis.edu/student-resources/tuition-fees/graduate

what a big difference!   This would be on PAR with my first masters degree it was like $80K back in the day so makes more sense, but I think its more than Hawaii which I was looking at as well.
