UBC Undergraduate nursing program 2008/2009

Hello everyone,

I have applied to UBC nursing for the 2008/2009 school year. I am really nervous about getting in because last year I did not.

If there are any people who have graduated from the program or who have applied recently or even in the past, would you please provide some information:

What was the GPA that you had?

How much volunteer experience did you have?

What was the interview like?

If you are in the program: What is the program and instruction like?

I am really hoping to get some valuable information. I am very anxious about getting into the program, but it is so up in the air. It would be better if it was based solely on GPA because then you would know if you are in or not.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

how are the semesters organized if you are in the january 09 entry ? 2nd semester in the summer ? when would you graduate ?

Hey guys, congrats to all of you who have been accepted. I start in September and I'd be happy to fill you in on how it goes. I know they tell you that you need access to a vehicle for clinicals, but I'm wondering if anyone has, or will be trying to manage without??

Omigosh... I wouldn't want to be using public transit to attend clinicals in a city the size of Vancouver! UBC isn't affiliated with any particular hospital and they could be placing you almost anywhere within the GVA for clinicals. I don't know how early one would have to get up in the morning to make it to the site for 0645. Makes me tired just thinking about it!

im in for January... just got my letter yesterday.. talk about last minute!

anyone else have anymore info about clinicals and not having a car... i do have a car, but its in Ontario! :p

My understanding is that the program is technically only 18 months and since there is no school in August we would be finished with the program in July 2010 but we don't graduate until November 2010 which is where the 2 years comes in. It is 5 terms. We go Jan '09, Then summer '09, then Sep '09, then Jan '10, then summer '10 and we are done.

I'm in for January as well. I will have a car. Perhaps we could car pull or since you won't have a car, just share the gas costs.

Hi everyone,

I'm going to be applying for UBC nursing this year and hopefully will be able to start in 2010! I'm kind of nervous about the application process and am hoping that those who were accepted in can tell me what your GPA was. Mine will be 3.3 and I'm really worried that it will be too low :S I have a lot of volunteer experience so I'm not worried about my references.. just my GPA. My GPA for the prerequisites will be around 3.7 or 3.6

Any knowledge you guys could share would be TRULY appreciated.

Hey Amber,

I spoke to the nursing advisor, and she mentioned that the GPA will only be calculated on the last 30 credits. You should go see an advisor before applying as it will probably give you a better insight of how they calculate it... because I can't remember it too clearly myself.

The grades for your pre-requisite courses will only be counted towards your GPA if it is within the last 30 credits you've taken in post-secondary.

Hey everyone, congrats on your acceptance. I just had some questions regarding the interview process... how long was it? Did anyone have to fly out to BC because they live in another province?

I live in Ontario and have applied for their September 2009 intake. I'm very apprehensive about this process so anything you guys can add would be great! Thank you. :)

Hi,

I was wondering if those of you who got accepted to the UBC accelerated BSN program would be able to give some feedback/information about the program. I have been accepted for September 2009, but am very nervous. I don't really know what to expect and want to know how intense the program is. Is there enough clinical work within the program? Are you enjoying the program? Any information will be great!

Thanks!

Hi michelle8888,

I am accepted to the BSN program at UBC for Sept. 2009 and am a bit nervous. I see that you've already been accepted, so I was wondering how you are finding the program so far, or if anyone can help me out. How are the clinical practices? How is the workload? very intense? and perhaps an overall description of the experiences thus far.

Any information will be helpful, thanks so much!

Hi Sarah,

You asked a question about clinical hours earlier. I heard that UBC Nursing is just shy with how many hours of clinical practice they want when compared to BCIT. I think BCIT is about 1400 hours and UBC is around 1340. I also got accepted in to the September 2009 intake and I'm wondering how on earth we can get 1,340 hours of clinical time in less than 2 years...hahah I guess we'll find out soon :)
