Hello everyone,
I have applied to UBC nursing for the 2008/2009 school year. I am really nervous about getting in because last year I did not.
If there are any people who have graduated from the program or who have applied recently or even in the past, would you please provide some information:
What was the GPA that you had?
How much volunteer experience did you have?
What was the interview like?
If you are in the program: What is the program and instruction like?
I am really hoping to get some valuable information. I am very anxious about getting into the program, but it is so up in the air. It would be better if it was based solely on GPA because then you would know if you are in or not.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the tip! Also, my friend has used the site http://www.canadianmedstudents.com/store/index.php?cPath=56 before, and their Littmann stethoscopes are much cheaper (free shipping on orders over $150, like a Littmann Cardiology III if you wanted). I've also heard that Shoppers HomeHealthCare branches (there's one at VGH) also offer discounts for Health Sciences students near September.
Yes, I vaguely remember the director saying that during our post-interview orientation session! I think he said it was the 4th & 5th semesters, but perhaps it's just the 5th. 4th AND 5th sound too good to be true...
Also, to be employed as a Student Nurse outside of clinical time requires us to finish Term 3. More info at http://www.nursing.ubc.ca/Current_Students/Policies/UBC%20Working%20Policy%20Employed%20Student%20Nurses%20.pdf
I have a Littmann SE II that I paid $90 before tax for at http://firstaidzone.ca. They also have a ton of other equipment and supplies for reasonable prices, ship quickly and have a great return policy. It's worth a look.
That's a great idea! I've been waiting for someone to start a "UBC Nursing 2011" group, heh. One thing, I've noticed most of the UBC Nursing groups on Facebook have a "Request to Join" restriction, due to confidentiality issues that may be discussed in there... so something to think about if we do start one.
I say go for it! :)

My friend in the Nursing program in UNBC recommends a Littmann S.E II. It's about $113-$115 with tax (it's about $107 without tax) in the UBC Bookstore. I don't trust the one from Aloft. Oh and don't get the lightweight version--my boyfriend tells me the plastic bell cuts down on the clarity of the sound.
Irrelevant point: I heard a rumour that UBC Nursing clinicals are paid...anyone know for sure?
