If so, that would make me feel A LOT better because I have a lot of hospital volunteer experience, but my GPA is 3.3 and that makes me very nervous.

Hi, Did you end up getting into an accelerated program? I'm in a similar position as you, only I guess around a year later. I would love to hear any advice you have, and especially to hear if you got in and if you wouldnt' mind sharing what your GPA was? I'm pretty nervous as I don't think mine is competitive enough :S I have a lot of volunteer experience, but I don't know how much they actually weight that these days.. most programs don't even ask.

I live in Toronto, it is very expensive. But I went to school in Waterloo (often referred to as Kitchener-Waterloo twin cities), which is 1 hour drive away and I must say that it is a wonderful city. Small enough to be charming, but big enough to find things to do. There are also 2 major universities in the city, which help it's economy and gives your kids the option of staying at home while going to uni. when they get to be that age. London, Ontario is another place you might consider, it's 2 hour drive from Toronto.

Hi everyone, I'm going to be applying for UBC nursing this year and hopefully will be able to start in 2010! I'm kind of nervous about the application process and am hoping that those who were accepted in can tell me what your GPA was. Mine will be 3.3 and I'm really worried that it will be too low :S I have a lot of volunteer experience so I'm not worried about my references.. just my GPA. My GPA for the prerequisites will be around 3.7 or 3.6 Any knowledge you guys could share would be TRULY appreciated.

Right now I'm taking Anatomy and Physiology online, and I soooo wish that I had done it in class--it is tough!! How are you finding biology and chem online? I'm hoping to start in the Fall '09 too! I'm worried that my GPA won't be high enough :uhoh21: it will be around 3.3 depending on how the classes I'm in now play out (and 3.7 for the prereq's). To hear that many of the cut off's have been around 3.8 makes me nervous :S Are you going to apply to more than one school? I think I'm going to apply all across the country, but hopefully I get into U of T because I'm from Toronto, or somewhere in B.C. because I hear it's great there.

Just wondering if there are any other Canadian pre-nursing students out there, what schools you're going to apply to, and what your GPA is? I think it works a bit differently here than it does in the US, so it would be nice to see if there are any others like me out there, and if so I'm sure we could provide some much needed encouragement during this application process!! Anyone going to be applying to accelerated programs?

where are you applying? university of toronto accelerated program (2 yr) university of british columbia accelerated york u. accelerated bcit (3 yr) university of alberta 2 yr university of calgary 2 yr university of saskatchewan 2 yr i am applying to so many because this past year i only applied to only one, and didn't get in i want to start so badly that i'm willing to relocate almost anywhere! what is your gpa and/or points for your school of choice? gpa will be around 3.3 and 3.6-3.7 for prerequisites (depending on how a & p goes!) when is your schools deadline? anywhere from jan. 1 to feb. 15 when does the acceptance letters go out? from april and a couple months after what is your plan a, b, c...? hopefully i will get in, but i'm afraid my gpa will not be high enough. i am volunteering at 2 hospitals so hopefully that will help this time around. plan b. take more courses to increase my gpa, work, travel, and apply again for next year or university of calgary's january 2010 start date.

Wow, maybe I should move. I'm from Toronto, Ontario and here a nice home (say 3 bedroom, bungalow in a middle-class area) costs at least 400K First year Nurses start at around $53,000 here.

I am an aspiring nursing student and would really appreciate some advice, if you can. There is an accelerated nursing program that I will be applying to this year, to start in the Fall of 2009. It is a very competitive program to get into. I will be applying to other programs, but being able to live in this city will save me a lot of money because I can still live with my mom! I want to do all that I can in this next year to increase my chances of being accepted. They look at your GPA from the last year and require at least a 75%, which is exactly what my last year's GPA is. So, I am going to enroll in nearly a full course load this year to increase my GPA. The 75% that I had in my undergrad was really a result of a very stressful year (circumstances out of the ordinary, but very very stressful), so I have every confidence that I can obtain an A average this coming year. I also will be volunteering at the local hospital-I've spoken with them and they said I will definitely get in by September. Any specific department I should try to volunteer in? Is there ANYTHING else that I can do to increase my chances? I really do not want to have to wait another year, this is something I really want to do and will do whatever it takes this year to increase my odds. Not being able to start this Fall was a downer, and I really don't want to have to go through that again next year. Is there anything I can do that will set me apart from other applicants? Any advice any of you can offer me will be truly appreciated.
