UBC September 2014 Applicants

Published

Hello :)

Anyone else applying for UBC's September 2014 intake? If so, let's get through this process by communicating with each other! :nailbiting:

Yep I came across that too. Thanks!

Good luck to everyone. Looking forward to hearing who gets invites for interviews! Going to start looking up MMI sample questions now, just in case! ...and study more for Anatomy.

Yes good luck to everyone and hope to hear back from all you guys in 2 months time!

@ Kirota

Don't give up on your anatomy! Study hard and it is definitely something that can be aced. I managed to finish the Athabasca BIO 235 course in a months time and still do pretty well. I believe if I can do it then anyone can. :)

Hi all,

This may seem like a weird question, but does being some kind of minority like gender or race (native) help you to get accepted into the accelerated nursing program? Or is everyone treated equally? Do any current students or anyone have insight into this? And how does UBC make it so that students have enough insight to start off in a third year intense nursing program? Thanks guys :):)

That's funny I came here to ask a similar question. Brittany from everything I've read, everyone is treated equally.

Everyone except for international students, that is. Which brings me to my question. Does anybody know how many international students they let in each year? Maybe if some of you are already in the program or have friends, I'm looking for a rough idea. They say on the website that they give priority to Canadian citizens and perm. residents, so I'm curious how many international students make it through. None? a couple? a dozen? any idea would be helpful. Thanks

In my class there were no international students that weren't citizens or PRs (that I know of). It would be very hard to get in I imagine.

@mighty_atom one or two but not every year.

I applied last year as an international student. I didnt get in.

I had an interview offer.

I got my PR last sumeer so hope this will make some change for this year.

Not that I don't believe you, but how did you manage that?? I'm taking it right now and it seems logistically impossible as I have to schedule my exams at least two weeks in advance haha. But I'm impressed!

@aethiopicus

It was doable, but was quite challenging as you can imagines since you're in the course yourself. I basically did nothing but that course for the month since I wanted to use the grades for admission, so I had to get the transcripts in by Jan 30th. Definitely had to plan ahead and schedule those exams ASAP (I wasn't too organized on that front and ended up writing the 3 exams in a span of 10 days haha). For myself having already completed a degree in Kinesiology also helped tremendously with learning the material itself. The course was essentially a review for me, as I was taking it to update my outdated A&P credits, so I guess I had a lot of advantages my way for being able to do it in the time span that I was able to do in. I really liked the way the course was delivered though, so it was no way encumbering to me as I was going through it. How are you finding it so far?

I was wondering, what was the turnaround time for getting your transcripts after you wrote your final? I'm completing Biol 230 at Athabasca right now and I know UBC says we need to have our transcripts there by June 15. Currently I'm planning on writing my final mid May but I have concerns that I might be cutting it a bit close, although I have no idea how fast it is to get your final transcript from AU. Do you have any insights?

I took the same course last year, wrote the final exam December 14th and received my final grade December 19th. However the final transcript was not available until first week of January. That delay might be normal or just due to the holidays at that time of year. I would suggest writing the final exam a full month before the transcript deadline so that you have time for the final transcript to be posted and mailed to UBC. Best of luck!

Hey Kiawa

From what I can recall when taking the course, I would like to say that your transcripts should arrive on time. Just make sure to let your tutor know that you have a deadline to meet as they are the ones responsible for sending in your marks to the registrars office to get them officially entered into the system. I think I only had about 2 weeks between when I finished my course and when I had to send the transcripts to UBC, so I would like to say that you will be okay. I definitely had to mention my urgency to my tutor and the registrars office at the time, but they were able to get it done for me. Hope that helps.
