UBC September 2014 Applicants

Published

Hello :)

Anyone else applying for UBC's September 2014 intake? If so, let's get through this process by communicating with each other! :nailbiting:

Yes agreed that you will probably have the best chance of getting a job where you have done your placement...We will be qualified to work anywhere but sometimes it is about connections, plus you will have had the opportunity to show that you're a good worker. Good point about getting experience within the Ontario healthcare system...I'm from Ottawa and will most likely want to move back there to work, so it would probably make more sense for me to go to school in Toronto...I'm leaning in that direction...BC is beautiful though!

Has anyone heard what date we will find out if we get an interview or not? I am assuming it will be in the next few days or so...

@nurse009 As far as I know, it will be in third week of march (next week).

I emailed UBC Admissions last week and they hope to start emailing out interview invitations by the end of next week (March 20 or 21?). Rejection letters will be sent out beginning of April and will provide information regarding GPA and supplemental application ranking. So I assume they don't provide those rankings in the emails for interview offers? I'd just be curious...

OK awesome, thanks for letting me know! Hope we all get an interview invitation soon! :)

They do not tell you until they send you rejection letter.

If you get an interview offer, they won't provide GPA and supplemental application ranking.

Later, if you get an acceptance letter, they still won't provide any rank/score information.

Specializes in Remote/Rural.

Like a lot of people have mentioned, I would study where you want to end up living in order to make connections during your practicums etc.

I have applied to UBC and MUN (in Newfoundland) and UBC is just closer to family and in the province where I want to end up living (I'd like to end up on Vancouver Island, where I am currently living!)

I hope we hear back soon! I really have no clue where I will stand in all of this.

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had their references contacted for the application? One of the doctor's I have worked with for 2 years and is a Clinical Professor at UBC is a good reference of mine and he says he hasn't heard anything at all....Do they contact references before or after the interview?

Thanks a lot,

Kelsey

Hi there,

I work at Island Health (formerly VIHA) and there are 100's of job postings as well as a ton of community nursing positions available as well through various nonprofits (CoolAid for example or the housing sites). They all seem to want experience, but I know VIHA does a student-nurse 6 month apprenticeship type thing (I think it's their working student program) so that could be a good place to start when you apply. You make the same initial salary too, which is awesome and you get good experience. Hope this helps!

They usually don't contact references. Simply, they do not have enough time to contact all of references.

@nurse2b009

according to the website: "All applicants will be informed of their selection status by the end of the first week in April and those who are selected for an interview will be contacted by the School of Nursing Admissions Office. The interviews for September 2014 will take place on the following days: Thursday April 10th, Friday April 11th, Tuesday April 15th and Wednesday April 16th, 2014. All selected applicants must attend the interview in person. Interviewed applicants who are accepted will be sent an email with the admission offer and details about the registration procedures. Unsuccessful candidates will also be notified by email."

@Briel - thanks for the reply! It settled my heart just a wee bit, but I'm still dying to know what is going to happen! Worst case scenario I got into the 3rd year dietics program....but my heart is set on nursing.
