UBC September 2014 Applicants

Published

Hello :)

Anyone else applying for UBC's September 2014 intake? If so, let's get through this process by communicating with each other! :nailbiting:

Hey Kiawa - congrats! I live in Calgary too! We should definitely meet up and practice MMI's - I already have a list of questions to work with. Maybe in one of the study rooms at the UofC Taylor library this weekend? I don't think I have PM privileges yet on this blog, so just email me if interested nkgenton @ gmail . com :)

Congrats to those that have gotten interviews so far! Good luck to the rest of us that are still waiting. Sigh, I've been checking my email every few minutes, ha ha. But judging from last year's UBC thread, it can take them a while to get to all of us. Stay positive

I am checking my emails non stop too... it's driving me nuts a little bit, but I can't help it.. I'm wondering what's their system..who gets their offer first.

I have been on a continuous 'check every 5 minutes' loop since the end of last week! I am most definitely going to be a little bit crazy by the end of this whole process.

Got to love the stress of all this.. not. LOL. It looks like the offers were given to people outside of the province (Go Calgary people) possibly first because they have to make travel arrangements and such, and would be the ones most likely to say 'yeah, no thanks, I got a closer offer'. That's my hope. :D It is going to be a stressful week...

Hey guys!

I just got my offer from UBC for the 11th of April...a little background to continue to give hope to others.

I come from a pretty different background, I have a BA in International Relations and Indigenous Studies with an 10.8 out of 12 GPA (ontario system, around an 84%) from Carleton University.

In terms of work experience I have volunteered in Parliament, have done internships for the National Inuit organization and the National Association of Friendship centres...I have worked as a tree planter and I am a PADI master scuba diving instructor.

I am also a certified tech diver...I worked as a peer facilitator during my undergrad and as a scuba instructor some summers.

Also, I applied from BC!

I wish everyone the best of luck!! And I am really excited to meet some of you at the interviews!

Hmmm...I hadn't thought about the 'out-of-province' factor, you might be right! But I hope the best for all of you regardless of location and hope to meet some of you on the afternoon of April 10th when I have my interview!

I just got an interview!! April 11th I'm in Toronto if anyone wants to practice MMI here!

The out-of-province is definitely a good theory, and it seems like it judging from the offers people have got so far. The interviews are earlier than last year (which started around April 15th I think), so travel arrangements will have to be made, and very quickly too. But gennrichard applied from BC and got an interview, so may be that theory is out of the window?

I know it's a waste of time speculating, but I can't seem to help it. Is it alphabetical? Best to worst? Science background? Yup, stressful times.

For those that got interviews, did they give you a date to confirm the interview by? Just curious.

Hey Agatha,

I really don't know if there is a system behind order of offers....I wouldn't worry about that aspect too much.

I had to let UBC know by the 31st of March.

I was sent my interview offer yesterday, March 25, for April 10th, with a confirmation date of March 31. That might mean that this week is for initial offers to be sifted through and that next week will be used to fill remaining spots - that would be my guess! It must be a nightmare for the Admissions office to process so many applications and with such a diverse range of candidates. I don't think offers are sent alphabetically (my last initial is G) - I think it is probably due to a variety of factors. Remember that interview offers are sent based 60% on GPA and 40% on supplemental. Looking at threads from previous years, I think a really wide variety of applicants will be interviewed - not just those with science backgrounds or hospital experience.

Yeah from what I've read in previous threads, people would come up with a theory and then two seconds later it would be debunked by the next person with an offer haha...that being said, I'm still going to cling to any theories that make me feel better about not hearing anything =)
