Hello :)
Anyone else applying for UBC's September 2014 intake? If so, let's get through this process by communicating with each other!
Hi everyone! I just found out about this post. Like everyone else here, I am also applying for September 2014, so first: Best of luck to everyone!
I started to write my supplemental application over the holidays, and haven't touched it since then. I have one week left, so I must go on work mode. It's my first time having to write a personal statement, and I feel that everything that I write sounds so cheesy, anyways. So far I wrote about how I realized that I wanted to become a nurse a few years ago after spending 5 years working in clinical research, and also what I can contribute to the profession, etc... but I was wondering if I should talk about the field that I would like to work in (although I'd be happy to be a nurse no matter what field I work in). I am VERY interested in working in pediatric palliative care, but if I write that, would they think it's too "narrow"?
Personally, I wouldn't specify the area of nursing you want to go into. Just my opinion, since I have a pretty clear idea of where I want to eventually work, but it does seem too narrow. I'm working on my supplemental right now too, most nerve racking thing I've ever done :S T minus 7 days until we have to submit
Write about why you want to be a nurse. What inspired out to go into this field. I made mine very personal when I applied last year and it helped a lot. Many times a person chooses to go into nursing because of a personal connection with the healthcare system, whether it be an ill relative or something they witnessed so share that with the faculty! They want people who are not only passionate, but also have a little experience/maturity (whether it be professional, volunteer, personal).
Hi @amychow0 and @AgathaKitty,
I spoke with the UBC SoN a couple of weeks ago and they confirmed the dates for the interviews to be April 10, 11, 15, 16. They've also updated the 'Application Process' page of the BSN Program website.
Hope this helps! And best of luck to everyone with their respective applications!

Finally submitted supplemental! Just need some clarification for one of the document uploads…..Internet application upload?
If anyone can clarify that for me that'd be great. Also, my student centre says they've received my university transcript but says nothing about my high school transcripts. A little worrisome. My school sent it out on January 8th so that should be more than enough time(?)
Just finished up my supplemental application yesterday as well! Feels good to finally have the thing over and done with.

Not sure if that internet application upload has anything to do with applying into this program as they require for you to send in all your documents directly from the institutes that you've attended. In regards to your high school transcripts, I know during this time admission says it could take a while to update your status in regards to documents being submitted. I didn't in realize that you had to send in your high school transcripts if you already had at least 30 post-secondary credits finished. At least that was the case when I first transferred into UBC, so maybe things are different? In any case if you're worried about the high school transcripts you can always call the admission office. I had a bit of confusion the other day and I called them and they were able to fix the problem up for me no problem.

Hi Everyone!
Glad to hear everyone is working hard on their applications! I am currently in the program here at UBC and I thought I would just try to clear some of the confusion about transcripts. When I applied last year, the transcripts had to be official, aka mailed from your previous university with the official stamp. It just had to have a date stamp prior to Jan 31 to be accepted since everyone knows how unreliable mail can be lol! Now, when I first contacted UBC admissions they gave me totally wrong information. Contact UBC School of Nursing directly to make sure you can just upload it. Better to know now. :)
Best of Luck!!!
