UBC 2020 Nursing

Published

Hey!

Just wanted to start this for anyone looking to apply to the 2020 cycle for UBC accelerated nursing. Let's share what we'll be applying with and any other info :).

If I was employed at a company for a short while (3 months) should I include it in the supplemental?

how much volunteering experience did you have when you applied? I'm worried that I don't have enough. Also, I'm having trouble writing the relevant life experience, challenges and accomplishment section. For this section, is it appropriate to say that I suffer from anxiety for challenges?

Hello @bubbletea2019!

I'd say I had quite a bit of volunteering experience when I was applying. On top of healthcare experience, I had non-healthcare volunteer experience as well. I think for relevant experience section, it really depends on people. When I had any questions regarding application, I always called the office to ask. I'm sorry I'm not much of a help.

What you decide to write in the supplemental is your choice. I picked the experiences that I think is the most relevant for the application.

Hey there, I've already applied, plus submitted my supplemental and done my CASPer. You will get an email that tells you that the supplemental is available after you submit the UBC application.

Hey! I'm working on my supplemental app right now. I found that a lot of my answers to the questions had overlapping experiences. I feel like I shouldn't be talking about the same position/experience in two different questions. Did you run into the problem as well?

Hey guys,

For references, it says one needs to be a teacher, employer etc. Does that mean we can put anyone for the other one?

For employment record, did you guys list volunteering as well or just employment?

Thanks!

Hi,

I believe you're correct about the reference part (at least that's what I did!)

For employment I only listed employment and discussed most of my volunteering in the other parts of the application. Hope this kind of helps!

Hi,

Has anyone had experience with the PLAR review? I'm interested in applying for Sept 2021. I completed one of my HAP courses two months before the 4 year cutoff. Has anyone had this happen to them? Will I have to take another course?

Hey everyone!

I just found this page and I'm super happy I did! I'm applying to nursing for the first time this year only at UBC. I'm just finishing up my supplemental application now, having some trouble with listing goals and interests in an interesting way. I'm writing my CASPer Feb 24th like some people here! I'm really nervous about getting in, if anyone has any tips they want to talk about for the application I'd love to discuss, I'm sure were all feeling the same way!

I have a BSc already, completed in 2019, and I'm working in cancer research now, my GPA is fairly strong, 91% over the last 30 credits, but by reading the 2019 thread it seems like they care the most about the CASPer anyway so who knows! The 2019 thread was really active and seemed to really help people, so hopefully we can come together here too ?

Hi! I ended up making sure that there was no overlap in experiences in each section, so I had to break some of my volunteer and work responsibilities down. For example, I put training as a volunteer role under leadership, but then listed the actual volunteer there as caring for others. This way I kept the overlap to a minimum, but felt like they were in their appropriate categories. It was definitely weird when a leadership role was also a "positions held" role, so I just chose a spot for it based on the question that I had more room to write in.

Urm.. What are the chances they'll accept my application if two of my transcripts haven't come in yet?

I just got an email earlier this week that VCC had a system error and didn't process my transcript request, even though I had done it at the beginning of the month! They sent it out on Monday and I see that UBC still hasn't received it yet... Same thing with BCIT, although I'm not sure why they're taking so long too...

Hi Hallsmini,

As long as they send it before the 31st and the date stamp is then before the 31st then UBC is fine with it! They can take up to 2 months to process some stuff, my transcript from December still hasn’t been received and they told me it’s fine. If they have a problem they’ll contact you!

Oh thank goodness! Thank you so much kkay96!! I'm not sure how to directly reply to your comment haha..
