Hey!

Just wanted to start this for anyone looking to apply to the 2020 cycle for UBC accelerated nursing. Let's share what we'll be applying with and any other info :).

Hi a21_stu,

I can’t really give advice as to what will be best for you but I definitely can relate to where you are at.

I also was at SFU in Health Science and realized in my 3rd year that I wanted to go into nursing. After looking around and speaking to a few people I decided that I would finish my degree at SFU and then make applications to nursing programs. My reasoning for this decision was that if for some reason I’m never accepted anywhere then I could always fall back on my degree. Hard decision because I don’t want to be a student forever. I’m hoping that having a degree will actually help me being accepted but as this is my first time applying to nursing I won’t know the answer to that for a bit.

Hi! I'm currently in my first semester at UBC-V!

I just graduated from SFU in May, so I understand what you mean about spending another 4 years in school. I decided I wanted to go into nursing in maybe year 3 as well? But i decided to finish my degree ... And I don't regret spending that extra time finishing it up! In my opinion, I would shoot for the 20 month program rather than four years but it's totally up to you and how confident you feel. I'm currently working on my supplemental application! Do you think it would be alright if I wrote the community service, leadership roles, and working with others in a point-form format? 300 words don't allow for that much fluff!

In the supplemental application, it want you to list the dates when you started and ended your activities. Some of my activities are still ongoing, so what would the end date of my activities be?

Yeah I'm pretty sure I just listed everything, not really a proper paragraph.

Agreed, just put the current date if it requires a date, or write 'present' if you can. ?

Does UBC care about the amount of volunteer experience you have or what you learned from them? Also, how are you describing your activities? I find that 300 words isn't enough for me to put down all the things I want

Hey bubble tea. No, I don't think so. Usually relevant life experience refers to nyrsing-related skills or experiences. No if you, say, worked in the church nursery or volunteered through church at the at a care facility, absolutely talk about that. I'd only put religion in otherwise as part of my letter of intent, to perhaps show ethics or dedication to something. I think that's how I used it.

how much volunteering experience did you have when you applied? I'm worried that I don't have enough. Also, I'm having trouble writing the relevant life experience, challenges and accomplishment section. For this section, is it appropriate to say that I suffer from anxiety for challenges?
