UBC 2020 Nursing

Published

Hey!

Just wanted to start this for anyone looking to apply to the 2020 cycle for UBC accelerated nursing. Let's share what we'll be applying with and any other info :).

Hey guys!

I'm super stressed too! Hopefully, we all get good news soon. I keep counting down days till April 30!! Do you guys already have degrees? I'm finishing mine this year at UBC if I don't get into nursing, then I plan to apply again. My GPA is 3.4 on my last 30 credits. I don't have much healthcare experience, other than a care home I volunteered at. How about you guys? Casper was sort of hard.

My GPA is low...it's about a 3.2 (78%) on a 4.0 scale on my last 10 undergraduate credits. But I have a Masters degree with a 4.0 GPA and a lot of work experience with Indigenous and rural communities so I'm hoping that they look at my application holistically. I also found Casper really challenging and don't know if I did very well on it.

Yes, join our stress!

I got my degree last year at UVic in Microbiology! I work at UBC now as a cancer research lab manager and my GPA is 90% for nursing admissions purposes (not sure what that is on the 4.33 scale, I think somewhere around 4.1-4.2). I've been volunteering in hospitals for almost 2 years now (BC Children's hospital & hospital ER), but other than that no major healthcare experience like a lot of the people here have been talking about! I'm hoping the CASPer went alright, but I'm nervous because it seemed to be the major deciding factor last year and I don't feel great about it. I had to write it twice, one for nursing and one for professional school, and thankfully nursing was second, so I felt a bit more relaxed that time, but I still found it extremely hard.

If I don't get in I'll either apply to U of C or to UBC again, I really don't want to leave Vancouver so thinking I might only apply again!

Gosh I hope you are right ?

Everybody's healthcare experience is so inspiring! Hopefully we all get good news ❤️

Really nervous because I'm only a 2nd year UBC undergrad and I don't have much work experience (other than Summer camp counselor, part-time event photographer). I'm hoping my personal experiences and 4 years at volunteering at a seniors home + 1 year BC Children's Child Life/hospital gift shop can convey how much I would love to join the nursing profession!

I felt so-so on the CASPer and I'm applying with a 85.4% (3.95/4.33). According to last year's thread, a few people #30+ on the waitlist got in so our chances might be alright! At least, that's what I keep telling myself haha!

Besides, do you know the minimum score for A & P? Mine is still in progress, and to be sincere self-study isn’t easy.

I don't think there is a minimum score! As long as your last 10 courses average is still above 70%!

Thank you. In my case, I finished my undergrad 2013 and taking A & P online at athabasca.

I have completed a number of classes online and considered doing A & P at Athabasca but ended up completing it as part of the Foundation’s program at Douglas. The classes were great especially liked the pathophysiology class.

How are you finding Athabasca so far?

It’s harddddddddddd because I’m taking the course online but its self-paced.

I am currently taking it too! I don't know why I didn't do it during my undergrad, but I love it! Online is definitely significantly harder though, motivation is tough to find.
