UBC Nursing

Published

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anybody is also applying to the UBC Nursing program this year for the 2009 intake...and also, for those that are in the program, or have graduated from the program, would you kindly please tell me what the program is like, as well as your admission average (based on the 30 credits that UBC Nursing looks at) and your supplemental application...to better prep myself for the application process.

thanks in advance.

Oh really? I was just going off the informaiton on the website. the 2nd of 3rd week of April doesn't really give one enough time to prepare if the interviews are at the end of the month...ahh oh well I guess the wait continues....

Oh man, I'm so nervous now! Coast, can you please post the link to where you got that info from? I am still in shock! Thanks :)

Clementine: this is the link http://www.nursing.ubc.ca/Academic_Programs/Undergraduate_Programs/Application_Process/Deadlines.htm, under the heading Selection and Interview Process.

However, I am doubtful the info on there pertains to this year's intake, as the paragraph reads...

Selection for interviews will be based on an Admission Index calculated from the academic and non-academic requirements, and applicants will be ranked relative to other applicants. All applicants will be informed of their selection status by the end of the first week in April and those who are selected for an interview will be contacted by the School of Nursing Admissions Office. Interview dates will be April 26th, 27th, 28th & 29th 2010.
We're not quite into 2010 yet =P

Hmm... Yes it does say 2010. But the interview dates are exactly the same as this years. Maybe it's a typo or maybe the info pertains to this year as well. I guess we will find out soon!

Maybe. I guess if none of us hears from them by the end of this week, we'll know.

I never even noticed the 2010! haha what great reading skills I have. Yes I agree with ya, if none of us has heard, we can say that it will be in next couple of weeks! Good luck gals!

Hello Everyone,

So I emailed information today and I got an email back saying that they expect to send out interview information this Friday and Monday.....its only a matter of time.

That's really close. good luck everyone!! Do you think they will send out the letters before they change our status on CWL?

you mean once they make a decision? I think your status changes on CWL changes before you get the letter...*shrug*, at least, that's how my friend who didn't get in last year found out, so her rejection email didn't come as such a huge shock.

Hi all,

I've been following this thread for about a week, as I've also applied to UBC for the Sept. 2009 intake. I'm not sure exactly what my admissions average will be, as I'm enrolled in 12 credits this semester and don't have final grades yet. I also am having a really hard time with the waiting game! Ah well.

I haven't applied for any other programs for September, but if I don't get in this year then I am planning to apply to other schools (BCIT, Langara, etc.) and maybe to schools out of province as well. I know there are programs similiar to UBC's in Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

Also, I just found out that VCC (Vancouver Community College) just started a new 3-year Bachelor of Nursing program, and they are still accepting applications for the September intake for this year. Unfortunately I don't have the prereqs for it.

Anyway, happy waiting everyone.

HI Tareija and welcome!

That was interesting to know VCC has a program now--I always thought it was the LPN program they had, not BSN. As for your admission average, it's the last 30 credits you had when you sent in your application to UBC in January...nothing this term counts. I know, it sucks, especially if you're like me and are trying to give your GPA every boost that it can get.

Hi SimplicityGirl,

Yup, VCC has a bachelor's now. It's new, this is the first year. I knew they were planning one for a while, but last time I checked (several months ago) it sounded like it was not on for this year. But, now it is. http://www.vcc.ca/programs-courses/detail.cfm?div_id=6&prog_id=220 if you'd like more info. They also still have an LPN program at VCC. When I called VCC last week, I think they said they're taking 24 students for this year, and hoping to have more seats in the future. I think they were also planning to have start dates in January, but not sure.

So UBC does not look at your current term's marks? For me, that is actually a bit of a relief. I've had slightly rough semester, and was worried it was going to drag down my GPA. Do you know if this term's marks will count in the final selection of students, after the interview round? Or is strictly all on marks from before January?
