Hi Everyone!
I've been searching for a thread for applicants to UBC's BScN program for September 2017, but I haven't found one. Please feel free to point me in the direction of an existing thread, or add to this one! I'm applying to UBC, U of T, and UWO for September, but UBC is definitely my first choice. Looking forward to hearing from everyone!
:)
A while back I asked admissions when we will hear whether we're accepted in the program or not. I received a reply today saying they will inform applicants of the admission decision in mid-April.
Ahh thank you so much for sharing this! I've been waiting for a reply from admissions for three weeks. How long did it take them to write back to you? Did they give you any more information about the process? I'm wondering how they will use the CASPer scores.
Hello future nurses! I am a first time applicant and am a little nervous after reading all the replies about amazing backgrounds people have in healthcare settings. Are there more people willing to share their backgrounds that were not mainly in healthcare settings?
Hi there!
I have a bit of healthcare experience, but not as much as some of the other applicants on this thread! I graduated with my Bachelor of Science (major in Psychology) in 2016. I've been volunteering at a medical clinic for 2 and a half years and a couple years ago I traveled to Tanzania where I shadowed doctors and nurses in a rural hospital for a month. Most of my volunteer work is actually related to animal welfare and all of my paid positions have been administrative.

Hello!
I am a first time applicant as well, and definitely do not have an extensive amount of healthcare experience, largely due to my age! I am only in my second year of my bachelor's of science in biochemistry, and am 19 years old so I haven't had much time. I have volunteered at the Children's Hospital regularly for the past year however, and have volunteered for the Ronald McDonald house quite a bit as well. Other than that I am hoping my well rounded background of sports and travel, my GPA (4.0) as well as my passion to be a nurse, will speak highly of me!
I wouldn't worry too much if you do not have a lot of experience in the healthcare field, this program is meant for us to gain experience! As long as you show maturity and passion I feel that should be enough. Good luck!! :)

According to my e-mail records it took them 15 days to reply. I didn't receive any other information about the process.
Yay! Congrats you guys! I just got rejected from two of the Masters programs I applied to at UBC so I'm getting paranoid that I'll be rejected from nursing too . Gonna apply to BCIT for nursing too but the deadline is Feb 28. They want my official transcript but UBC doesn't have an etrascript (my degree is from there) and if I open the sealed envelope to scan it it's not really "official" anymore. Any thoughts or advice?
Thanks! It's a little disheartening since I really thought I had it for one of the Masters, but I guess they must have had a super competitive application pool this year. I've been pretty confident with UBC nursing, but iunno I'm starting to think I need a backup plan! Thanks for the encouraging words though! You guys all seem like really nice people so I hope you all get in! If we're all lucky we're gonna have a good year ahead of us!

When I applied for August 2017 intake I opened my transcript envelope and took pictures of the front and back and converted it to pdf and submitted it to them. I think they may or may not request an "official" transcript after.
