UBC BSN September 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi Everyone!

I've been searching for a thread for applicants to UBC's BScN program for September 2017, but I haven't found one. Please feel free to point me in the direction of an existing thread, or add to this one! I'm applying to UBC, U of T, and UWO for September, but UBC is definitely my first choice. Looking forward to hearing from everyone!

:)

Just noticed that my application status changed on the UBC website from "Your application is ready for an evaluation!" to "Your application is currently being reviewed by the Faculty/School." I tried getting in touch with admissions early last week to discuss the new process (with the CASPer instead of interviews) but I haven't heard back. I'm guessing they're absolutely swamped right now.

@mdana93 - thanks for the CASPer advice! I'm writing mine on Thursday and I've been having a difficult time preparing for it. The UBC website says that preparation isn't required... but I feel like I HAVE to do something!

The Casper was not as scary as I thought. A lot of ethics based questions. What would you do. Don't say I think . they are lookin for what you would actually do. The practice test is pretty accurate for thectypes of questions.they also offer you abreak midway through the exam.It goes fast though. Hope that helps

What I have been doing to prepare is reviewing common ethical issues with respects to the medical field, and then practicing writing a response based on my opinion so that no time will be wasted when it comes time for the actual test!

@knchilton10 I think that is all you can do. I work in the healthcare system and I had coworkers drill me with different scenarios. It did help and I definitley felt less stressed. I felt so much better after the test was over! I wish we had a better timeline for how long the wait is ..feeling anxious í ½í¸ž

Mine still says 1 transcript is missing. But I confirmed with admissions it is there. I am so anxious checking everyday....😞...

I think it could take up to 2-3 weeks for it to show up on your Student Service Centre. At least you confirmed with admissions that it's there! That's good news.

Has anyone talked to admissions regarding the timeline for this year? Since everyone will have written the CASPer by the end of February, I'm assuming it isn't going to take them until May to hand out offers. I've tried calling and emailing but I've received no reply yet...

Anyone else writing the CASPer today? Eek, nervous!

Yup! Better to get it done with now. Have you been trying to prepare in anyway?

hey guys!

for those of you who have taken the casper test, it says we must have webcam access etc...is that just to observe us while we take the test? Or is there a verbal component to this as well?

This is my second time applying, my nerves got the best of me last year during the interview :(

Good luck to you all!

From what I have heard, the webcam is there for verification. Not sure about the observation part! Otherwise it is all written, there is no oral part to this "interview". This is from what I have read from other forums and on the nursing webpage, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong guys!

I've just done the sample questions with family/friends and asked them for their opinions on my answers. I feel grossly underprepared but the UBC website did say that no preparation is required.

I know where you are coming from! It is hard to prepare since it is on the spot problem solving and basic ethical dilemmas along with classic interview style questions. The practice questions I did with my friends brought up lots of different answers so I don't believe it is as black and white with regards to finding a correct answer. Fingers crossed it goes well! T-3 hours. Goodluck!
